Manager of Design
RTÉ is Ireland's national public-service media organisation.
A leader in Irish media, RTÉ provides comprehensive, cost-effective, free-to-air multi-media services to the public in Ireland and interested audiences internationally.
At its heart, RTÉ is a creative organisation, making and commissioning a broad range of high-quality content to serve multiple platforms and diverse audiences.
With that in mind, RTÉ invites applications for the position of Manager of Design.
RTÉ Design has brought together Production and Graphic Design to offer an integrated full-service Design department to deliver exciting, enriching, impactful and informative design to our audiences.
Your core function will be to lead an innovative, future-focused design team delivering exceptional graphic and production design solutions to a wide range of internal clients.
A driver of change, you will be a key enabler in realising the opportunities of an ever-evolving design environment.
Reporting to the Head of Design and Studio Services, you will lead this team to innovate and continuously improve how Design services are planned, optimised, and delivered to all content producers in both visual and audio output as well as marketing, communications and Sales.
Achieving the best design possible is at the heart of everything we do, which includes supporting our extraordinary design talent to create and deliver excellence.
Responsibilities include:

Lead and manage the design team across graphic, production and real time design and delivery
Lead the assessment, prioritisation and assignment of design projects to ensure creative and collaborative cohesion across all projects and design functions while balancing competing business needs
Translate emerging design trends and opportunities into actionable goals
Working with finance and planning to establish annual budgets and ensure the department meets targets set
Build and maintain exceptional external and internal relationships to understand and satisfy previously unmet, unexpressed, or unknown client needs
Analise, report and act on Design performance and industry trends to continuously improve on our operating model and champion innovation initiatives
Identify and progress innovations and tools for non-designers to output exciting and exceptionally engaging graphics and brand conscious content
Translating emerging trends into development opportunities for the Design team through an annual learning and development plan

Experience and Skills Required:

At least 4 years of experience leading a Design team and/or significant design projects within their area of expertise
A detailed technical understanding of design workflows
A clear vision of how evolving design trends will impact on viewers' expectations
A finely developed aesthetic sense attuned to fashion in design trends
Empathic and inclusive leadership skills
A natural ability to communicate across a range of mediums
Experience using Adobe design apps
Exceptional organisational skills

Competences required:
Be a visionary: with the ability to analyse and understand how industry trends will shape audience expectations to inform and formulate future direction with clearly defined goals
Strategic thinker: capable of understanding and shaping how the Design Department will support 'A New Direction for RTÉ' strategic 5-year plan
Innovative: Ability to think differently, approaching emerging challenges in new ways
Influencing: Able to take a customer-centric approach to exciting others in future directions with coherent and well thought out plans
Communication: Exceptional communication ability and collaborative orientation
This position will be offered on a permanent ongoing full-time employment basis at Manager Grade 2 level.
The expected salary on appointment is between €71,000 - €80,000, subject to relevant experience.
The salary band for Manager Grade 2 is €71,532 to €100,334 per annum, with pay increases subject to performance.
