Managing Director, Legal Counsel SSGA Job Description: The State Street Global Advisors Legal Department provides strategic advice and counsel to SSGA's business and control teams. We partner closely with these teams to find strategic solutions for our clients and contribute to the overall success of the firm. We are recruiting for a Managing Director level solicitor to lead the legal services function for SSGA in Ireland and provide advice and counsel to State Street Global Advisors Europe Ltd ("SSGAEL"), which is the management company and appointed investment manager for SSGA's EU domiciled pooled fund ranges and is also the primary distributor and contracting entity for SSGA's EU clients and EU business. SSGAEL has branches in a number of EU jurisdictions. The role is based in SSGA's Dublin office, will report to the Head of SSGA EMEA Legal based in London, and will manage the Irish legal team. To be successful, you will develop a deep understanding of the firm's investment and operational capabilities, service offerings, culture and vision and regulatory and supervisory landscape, in order to serve as a trusted advisor to your business and control partners and efficiently identify, diagnose and help to address complex legal issues. Specific Duties Leading legal services function for SSGA in Ireland, including management of Irish legal team Analysing regulations impacting SSGAEL and advising senior management and other stakeholders on the impact of such regulations. Providing legal and regulatory advice and support with respect to SSGA's EU domiciled funds (UCITS and AIFs), These funds, which include ETFs, provide exposures across a wide range of asset classes including index (equity and fixed income), active (value, multi-asset, LDI and cash), property and funds with a sustainable investment strategy.. Advising on companies law requirements applicable to SSGAEL. Providing regulatory advice and support in relation to SSGAEL's interactions with the CBI and branch regulators. Providing assistance in negotiating investment agreements and related documentation in connection with separately managed account services provided by SSGAEL to institutional clients, as required. Working with other members of the SSGA Legal team to help ensure a coordinated and consistent legal approach across the different services and funds offered by SSGAEL. Representing SSGAEL from a Legal perspective at industry events. Instructing external legal counsel, where required. Skills, experience and qualifications 10-15 years post qualification experience in a well-recognised law firm and/or in-house legal department. Significant experience providing legal support and counsel in connection with provision of investment management services, investment funds and related regulatory matters. Familiarity with Irish companies law. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Prior experience managing members of an in-house legal department. Are you the right candidate? Yes!
