The Position

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Client Engineering team in Shannon, County Clare. This role requires a deep understanding of mechanical engineering principles and a background in designing for manufacturability.

The ideal candidate will have experience in general machining operations, CAD/CAM systems, and the development and introduction of new products and processes.

This role involves working closely with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to execute various projects and improve manufacturing processes.

The Responsibilities


Engineering & Design:

  • Support the continuous development and improvement of manufacturing processes.
  • Conduct engineering assessments on equipment and systems
  • Develop and introduce new products and processes within budget and scheduled timelines.
  • Design and develop tools, fixtures, and gages for manufacturing operations.
  • Interface with OEM vendors and contractors.
  • Capture, extract, and convert inputs into clear instructions, specifications, and rules.
  • Produce detailed specifications for the design, development, manufacture, and installation of mechanical components or systems.
  • Develop strategies and concepts to solve challenging problems and implement prototypes.
  • Read, interpret, and generate detailed engineering drawings with a strong understanding of geometrical dimensioning and tolerancing.

Product/Process and Technology Transfer:

  • Provide technical support for product transfers between sites.
  • Act as the interface during technology and product transfers, ensuring smooth transitions and effective knowledge transfer.
  • Generate and manage technology transfer plans and related documents.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Deliver cost, process, and technical improvements through project planning and risk analysis.
  • Provide leadership on continuous improvement projects and risk mitigation initiatives.
  • Liaise with suppliers, customers, and internal departments to achieve goals and targets.
  • Stay updated with the latest advances in technology and integrate them into processes.

Customer Support:

  • Engage with customers on technical queries and requirements, including site visits.
  • Troubleshoot and improve products and processes based on customer feedback.
  • Interact with customers at all levels, from operators to engineering.

Quality:

  • Identify and resolve corrective and preventative actions to address quality, technical, and manufacturing issues.
Education & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification is a plus.
Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Solid understanding of fundamental mechanical engineering principles, including statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials, and heat transfer.
  • Proficient in CAD/CAM systems and CNC programming.
  • Experience with quality systems and inspection tools.
  • Confident in validation requirements for new equipment and processes.
  • Project management qualifications and experience in product and process transfer are advantageous.
