Construction Estimator sought for dynamic team with strong background in fabrication to provide accurate and competitive cost estimates for construction and fabrication projects.

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Construction Estimator with a strong background in fabrication to join our team. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in providing accurate and competitive cost estimates for construction and fabrication projects.

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of both construction processes and fabrication methods, as well as the ability to collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare Detailed Cost Estimates: Review and interpret project blueprints, specifications, and technical drawings to prepare precise cost estimates for construction and fabrication projects.
  • Project Analysis: Evaluate project scope, site conditions, materials, equipment, and labour requirements to develop accurate cost projections.
  • Material and Labour Pricing: Research and source pricing information from suppliers and subcontractors for materials, fabrication, and labour costs.
  • Risk Assessment: Identify and assess potential project risks and develop cost contingencies to account for any variations in scope or materials.
  • Collaboration with Teams: Work closely with project managers, engineers, architects, and subcontractors to ensure all project costs are accurately captured.
  • Bid Preparation: Assist in the preparation of bid proposals, tenders, and contract negotiations by providing detailed cost estimates and clarifications.
  • Budget Management: Track and monitor project budgets to ensure that actual costs align with initial estimates throughout the project's lifecycle.
  • Cost Database Management: Maintain and update internal databases with current material, equipment, and labour costs, ensuring pricing reflects market trends.
  • Compliance with Irish Regulations: Ensure all cost estimates and proposals comply with relevant Irish building regulations, health and safety standards, and environmental guidelines.
  • Client Communication: Communicate with clients to discuss project requirements, address queries, and provide cost breakdowns.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Education: A degree or diploma in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a construction estimator, with at least 2 years of experience in a fabrication setting.
  • Fabrication Knowledge: Strong understanding of fabrication processes, including welding, metalwork, and structural steel, is essential.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficient in estimating software and tools (e.g., Auto CAD, Bluebeam, Cost X) and MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Analytical Skills: Exceptional attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to interact effectively with internal teams and clients.
  • Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with the Irish construction industry, relevant building codes, health and safety standards, and market trends.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Team Player: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in estimating projects in sectors like industrial construction, manufacturing plants, or large-scale metalworks.
  • Membership in professional organizations such as SCSI (Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland) or CIF (Construction Industry Federation).
