Senior Laboratory Supervisor for Microbiology: Lead laboratory team in microbiological testing and environmental monitoring, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and driving continuous improvement.

The Senior Laboratory Supervisor for Microbiology is responsible for the Microbiological testing of finished goods and implementation of the Microbiological Environmental Monitoring Program. The individual will oversee the laboratory team, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and driving continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the appropriate disposition of all products and their component materials through the timely release of complete accurate test results.
  • Ensure complete documentation of test records for all materials tested.
  • Assure that the laboratory is in compliance with appropriate regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain and use technical expertise of current laboratory testing/procedures/instrumentation with input from an appropriate analytical resource.
  • Apply technical expertise to initiate, schedule and implement productivity improvement programs.
  • Assure provision of and actively pursue improvement of laboratory support to production, research and development and engineering.
  • Write Laboratory procedures, testing instructions and/or operating procedures.
  • Approve specifications and testing instructions with supervisory guidance.
  • Lead in selection, hiring, training, termination, promotion, demotion or placement of employee in their group.
  • Participate in all group performance reviews, merit ratings and salary increases.
  • Identify and resolve personnel issues.
  • Assure training and development of subordinates.
  • May be responsible for one or more shifts across Microbiology and Analytical Laboratories.
  • Provide and maintain a safe working environment for all personnel.
  • Assist in the responsibility of meeting division production objectives within planned budgets.
  • Provide input to manager for resources needed to construct budget, updates and changes in financial plan.
  • Manage area supplies and equipment within budgeted amounts.
  • Originates and processes department Requests for Capital Expenditure (RCEs) with supervisory guidance.
  • Provide input to department capital planning process.
  • Develop/maintain effective communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Perform the general functions inherent in all supervisory positions and perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) level 7 qualification in a relevant discipline and 4+ years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Some level of human relations skills to deal effectively with members of the department and the areas serviced by the laboratory.
  • Problem solving is required in multiple facets of the job including technical, managerial, administrative, etcetera.
  • The supervisor must be able to interpret impact of laboratory data for appropriate and effective action and priority with supervision.
  • The supervisor must be able to identify problem areas requiring development, maintenance, production, engineering, accounting, or planning.
  • The supervisor must also be able to identify, communicate, and follow-through to completion in the development of necessary corrective action plans to resolve the problem.
