Job Description

The Observability Engineer will play a key role in the IT Operations Support team within EITS. The Engineer will operate in the team responsible for delivery & support of Observability Tooling. The role will cover all areas of observability tooling from product sourcing to installation/implementation and on-going support. Responsibilities: Research new technologies and initiatives. Work with a team to ensure quality assurance. Support the resolution of live issues as they arise. Deliver on multiple projects concurrently and move between technologies. Build credibility and establish good working relationships with the business, other teams within IT, Group IT / IT Services and 3rd parties. Requirements: Monitoring and Logging: Expertise in setting up and managing monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana) and logging systems (e.g., ELK Stack, Splunk). Distributed Systems: Understanding of distributed systems architecture, including microservices and containerized environments (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker). Data Analysis: Ability to analyze and interpret logs, metrics, and traces to identify performance issues, bottlenecks, and anomalies. Scripting and Automation: Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) to automate repetitive tasks and enhance observability processes. Incident Management: Skills in incident detection, response, and management, including experience with tools like PagerDuty or Opsgenie. Cloud Platforms: Experience with cloud services (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and their native observability tools and integrations. Metrics and Dashboards: Ability to design and build custom dashboards and visualizations to monitor system health and performance effectively. Tracing: Familiarity with distributed tracing tools (e.g., Jaeger, Zipkin) to diagnose and troubleshoot complex system interactions. Network Protocols: Knowledge of network protocols (e.g., HTTP, TCP) and their role in observability, including how to capture and analyze network traffic This is a Permanent role based in PTSBs Dublin or Cork office.
