Job Description

Beacon Hospital seeks an Oncology Registrar to provide quality care to patients in a respectful, safe, and compassionate environment.

The Oncology Department at Beacon Hospital is a consultant-delivered service, working in collaboration with Registrars, SHOs, and interns to formulate management plans for patients.

The successful candidate will act under the supervision of the Oncology Consultant, providing an Oncology service and supporting Consultants in their duties.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Admitting Oncology patients, either as a supervisor or primary admitter, with a designated consultant available 24/7.
  • Handing over patients from previous shifts, ensuring continuity of care and immediate decision-making.
  • Morning rounding on Oncology patients, with daily decision-making responsibilities and medical note writing.
  • Reviewing patients regularly, ordering investigations as required, and documenting findings in clinical notes.
  • Discharge planning with Consultants, Nursing staff, and support services.
  • On-call duties, requiring a 5-hour commitment over weekends.
  • Primary care of one new Oncology patient per week, with mentoring from Medical Oncology Consultants.
  • Participating in MDT meetings, presenting cases, and contributing to quality improvement initiatives.
  • Assisting in education and training of colleagues, Medical Students, and staff.
  • Performing duties in a professional manner, adhering to Hospital Policies and Procedures.

Person specification:

  • Current Full Irish Medical Council Registration.
  • Membership of relevant college desirable.
  • Experience at Registrar level in an acute Hospital setting.
  • Current BCLS certification required, ACLS desirable.
  • An interest in Oncology Medicine and patient care.

Beacon Hospital requires a high level of flexibility to ensure delivery of an effective and efficient service. The post holder will be required to demonstrate flexibility as and when required.
