Job Description

Seeking a seasoned IT leader to oversee the operations, monitoring, and maintenance of business-critical applications and tools, ensuring high availability and effective management of business systems.

We are the people behind Ireland's electricity grid, operating the power system with world-leading levels of variable asynchronous renewable generation. Our purpose is to transform the power system to enable our society to reduce carbon emissions and meet climate change and net zero ambitions.

The successful candidate will report directly to the Chief Transformation & Technology Officer and be a member of EirGrid's extended leadership team. As Head of IT Operations, you will lead a high-performing team to deliver strategic objectives, create an engaged and motivated workforce, and exemplify leadership behaviours expected of a senior leader.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the operations, monitoring, and maintenance of business-critical applications and tools
  • Ensuring high availability of core applications and tools
  • Managing and evaluating the performance of business systems and tools
  • Collaborating with internal stakeholders and external partners to identify strategic opportunities
  • Developing, implementing, maintaining, and testing crisis management, business continuity, and disaster recovery plans

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in a relevant field in Information Technology or a related field (MBA preferred)
  • Seasoned IT leader with deep expertise in operations and maintenance of 24/7 mission-critical applications and tools in the utility industry
  • Experience leading professional working relationships and managing maintenance contract delivery and SLAs
  • Deep expertise in business continuity and crisis management processes for mission-critical business systems and tools
  • Strong strategic thinking and vision, with the ability to understand and translate business objectives into actionable outcomes
  • Excellent communication and engagement skills
  • Ability to lead, inspire, and motivate cross-functional teams
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing circumstances and demonstrate resilience
  • Strong leader in managing budgeting, funding requirements, financial management, and identifying and mitigating risks
  • Experience working in government, public sector, or regulated industries is advantageous
  • Strong analytical skills to align programs with organizational goals and government priorities
