Job Description

Waterways Ireland is seeking an Operations Engineer to manage the Shannon Navigation Area's infrastructure, overseeing maintenance, development, and staff supervision. The Operations Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Supervising staff on maintenance and construction, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
  • Coordinating with consultants and contractors to protect assets.
  • Conducting site surveys and producing project reports.
  • Preparing designs, planning submissions, and managing tenders for projects.
  • Tracking project progress to ensure timely, safe, and cost-effective delivery.
  • Reviewing planning applications affecting regional property.
  • Engaging with volunteers and event organizers to enhance community involvement and recreation.
To be eligible for this role, candidates must possess:
  • A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Level 8 NFQ) or equivalent.
  • A valid driving license with access to transport for travel across Ireland.
  • Strong knowledge of Civil/Structural Engineering principles.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of health, safety, and welfare in construction/maintenance.
  • 2 years' experience in operations/maintenance, including 1 year managing staff.
  • Knowledge of environmental issues in waterways development.
  • Understanding of working across two jurisdictions.
