Job Description
Waterways Ireland is seeking an Operations Engineer to manage the Shannon Navigation Area's infrastructure, overseeing maintenance, development, and staff supervision.
The Operations Engineer will be responsible for:
- Supervising staff on maintenance and construction, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
- Coordinating with consultants and contractors to protect assets.
- Conducting site surveys and producing project reports.
- Preparing designs, planning submissions, and managing tenders for projects.
- Tracking project progress to ensure timely, safe, and cost-effective delivery.
- Reviewing planning applications affecting regional property.
- Engaging with volunteers and event organizers to enhance community involvement and recreation.
To be eligible for this role, candidates must possess:
- A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Level 8 NFQ) or equivalent.
- A valid driving license with access to transport for travel across Ireland.
- Strong knowledge of Civil/Structural Engineering principles.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Understanding of health, safety, and welfare in construction/maintenance.
- 2 years' experience in operations/maintenance, including 1 year managing staff.
- Knowledge of environmental issues in waterways development.
- Understanding of working across two jurisdictions.
