Overview The General Counsel's team advises the Medical Council across all legal issues arising for the Medical Council, with the exception of complaint related matters which are handled by separate teams of lawyers.
The successful candidate will report to the General Counsel and the Associate General Counsel.
Key Responsibilities Provision of administrative support to the General Counsel and the team in their day-to-day duties of advising Council, Committee, Executive and other staff across the organization by means of record-keeping, file management, drafting agendas for meetings, ensuring that appropriate documentation is collated and prepared for meetings.
Conducting research, drafting correspondence, preparing and managing documents and files (including setting up and maintaining precedent banks, templates, trackers of legal advice and opinions given both by internal legal advisors and external legal advisors).
Implementing and assisting manage appropriate fee management processes and procedures, including ensuring compliance with internal procurement policies and procedures, tracking external legal spend (fee estimates, invoices/purchase orders etc.) and ensuring appropriate reporting of same.
Liaising with other departments within the Medical Council on key cross functional legislation related projects and other projects requiring the provision of legal advice and providing assistance in relation to these.
personal injuries, employment litigation and judicial reviews and maintaining a litigation tracker of such proceedings and claims, so status updates can be provided.
The above is not an exhaustive list of duties, and the job holder is expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by the changing role within the organisation and the overall business objectives of the organisation.
Experience in the use of appropriate technology, case management systems and other IT applications, specifically Excel, Power Point and Microsoft Word.
Ability to multi-task and to manage a significant workload, prioritise workload appropriately and see how processes and procedures can be improved.
If you are currently a serving civil or public servant, your entry point to the Pay Scale may be higher based on your current salary.
There will be salary increment each year in line with the Executive Officer Grade Pay Scale and subject to satisfactory performance, until the maximum point on the scale has been reached.
The rate of remuneration will not be subject to negotiation and may be adjusted from time to time in line with Government pay policy.
We operate a hybrid working model with both remote working and a current requirement for on-site attendance two days per week.
