Organisation/Company: Dublin City UniversityDepartment: Human ResourcesResearch Field: OtherResearcher Profile: First Stage Researcher (R1)Positions: PhD PositionsCountry: IrelandApplication Deadline: 18 Oct 2024 - 23:59 (Europe/Dublin)Type of Contract: TemporaryJob Status: Full-timeOffer DescriptionApplications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the following position:Research Centre: Molecular Neurobiology and Therapeutics Laboratory, School of BiotechnologyPostdoctoral Researcher in:Level on Framework: Level 1Duration: 18 Month Fixed Term ContractDublin City University: Dublin City University (DCU) is a leading innovative European University, known for its impact and commitment to addressing global challenges.As part of this role, the researcher will participate in the DCU Research Career Framework designed to provide significant professional development opportunities.Principal Duties and Responsibilities:Neurophysiological assessments of natural and proprietary inhibitors of nerve functions.Recombinant protein expression in E. coli and purification.Electrophysiological recordings to assay neurotransmission.Maintenance of transgenic mice colonies and performance of simple surgical procedures.Maintenance of records for regulatory compliance.Preparation and presentation of semi-annual reports to the research sponsor.Minimum Qualifications:Applicants must have a PhD in Neuroscience, Cell Biology, or a related discipline.Desirable Experience:Recombinant protein expression and purification.Behaviour assessments in rodents.Electrophysiological recording and data analysis.Immunohistochemistry, confocal microscopy, and image analysis.Candidates will be assessed on the following competencies:Discipline knowledge and Research skills: Demonstrates knowledge of a research discipline and the ability to conduct a specific programme of research.Understanding the Research Environment: Demonstrates an awareness of the research environment and the ability to contribute to grant applications.Communicating Research: Demonstrates the ability to communicate their research with peers and the wider research community.Managing & Leadership skills: Demonstrates the potential to manage a research project including the supervision of undergraduate students.Compliance Training: The postholder will be required to undertake essential compliance training including Orientation, Health & Safety, Data Protection (GDPR), and Cyber Security Awareness Training.Salary Scale: IUA Postdoctoral Researcher Salary Scale - €44,847 - €57,332, commensurate with qualifications and experience.Informal Enquiries: Dr Gary Lawrence, Molecular Neurobiology and Therapeutics Laboratory, School of Biotechnology, Dublin City University.Application Procedure: Please submit your application through the online system.
