Job Description

Principal Automation Engineer sought to drive automation, innovation, and continuous improvement in a medical devices company.

As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing automated solutions to enhance operational efficiency and product quality.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing a culture of automation, innovation, and continuous improvement
  • Providing technical oversight of multiple automation projects and supporting engineers in their development and implementation
  • Developing and implementing automated solutions to enhance operational efficiency and product quality
  • Mentoring and developing engineers to foster a culture of excellence and innovation
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify automation opportunities and prioritize initiatives
  • Developing technical solutions to complex technical problems
  • Leading the design and implementation of automation strategies across projects
  • Tracking project milestones and deliverables, managing risks and issues proactively
  • Troubleshooting and resolving issues related to automation systems
  • Supporting code reviews and ensuring adherence to coding standards
  • Developing and maintaining automation frameworks and tools to streamline processes
  • Developing documentation for automated systems to allow for standardization
  • Assisting in developing training materials and user guides
  • Staying updated on industry trends, tools, and technologies related to automation
  • Providing training and support to end-users on new automation systems and processes
  • Communicating effectively with stakeholders to report on progress and address challenges
  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives to enhance automation efficiency and effectiveness

Requirements:

  • BS in Engineering Level 8 Honours Degree
  • Advanced Degree desired, ideally Masters, Black Belt or Ph D
  • Minimum of 8 years automation engineering/systems experience
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with diverse teams
  • Excellent presentation and written/verbal communication skills
  • Technical leadership of engineers working on automated systems
  • Demonstrable excellent analytical & problem-solving skills, a process improvement orientation, and the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced and results-oriented environment
  • Proven track record of leading successful automation projects and teams
  • Proven experience with automation tools (e.g., PLC, SCADA, HMI)
  • Strong understanding of automated control systems such as Allen Bradley & Siemens, robotics, and industrial automation
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools and techniques
  • Demonstrable ability to work autonomously
  • Demonstrable ability to lead significant projects and initiatives
  • Experience in the Medical Device Industry desirable
  • Experience in Automated Packaging, Blasting, Linishing, Polishing, Deburring & Masking desirable
