ATG is a leading ecological consulting firm seeking a highly skilled and passionate Principal Ecologist to join our team in Dublin.
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of ecological consulting in Dublin and beyond, leading project delivery, managing client relationships, and ensuring regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage ecological surveys, assessments, and biodiversity plans for various projects, including infrastructure, construction, and land-use developments.
- Provide expert ecological advice on planning applications, Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), Habitats Directive Assessments (HDA), and other environmental consents.
- Oversee the preparation and review of high-quality ecological reports, including mitigation strategies, biodiversity action plans, and species protection plans.
- Manage and develop client relationships, acting as the key point of contact for ecological matters, ensuring clear communication and project updates.
- Lead and mentor a team of ecologists, supporting their professional development and fostering a collaborative and innovative working environment.
- Ensure all projects comply with Irish and EU environmental regulations, including Natura 2000, the Wildlife Acts, and the Planning and Development Acts.
- Collaborate with internal teams to provide integrated solutions that balance development and ecological considerations.
- Stay up-to-date with advancements in ecological best practices, environmental law, and policy changes in Ireland and Europe.
- Undertake business development activities, including preparing tenders and identifying opportunities for new work.
Qualifications and Experience:
- A degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, Conservation Biology, or a related discipline (postgraduate qualification preferred).
- Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in ecological consultancy or a similar role, with a proven track record in project management.
- Full membership of a professional body such as the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) or equivalent.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Irish and EU environmental legislation, policies, and guidelines.
- Demonstrable experience in leading and delivering Ecological Impact Assessments (Ec IA), Habitats Regulations Assessments (HRA), and other related ecological reports.
