Job Description

Principal or Senior Ecologist sought for dynamic environmental team with expertise in Environmental Impact Assessment and statutory consent applications.

Our client, a leading environmental consultancy, is seeking a seasoned professional with a strong background in writing and technical review of Environmental Impact Assessment Reports, Ecological Impact Assessments, and Habitats Directive Appropriate Assessments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate EIA projects for major infrastructure initiatives, including all EIA stages
  • Deliver EIAR, NIS, EcIA, and AA reports
  • Liaise with statutory consultees and craft environmental mitigation proposals
  • Manage freshwater and marine consent management, compliance, and related technical assessments
  • Develop comprehensive understanding of consent and licensing frameworks for terrestrial and offshore infrastructure in Ireland
  • Write technical reports, manage projects, and demonstrate exceptional leadership skills

Requirements:

  • Relevant third-level degree (Level 8 or higher)
  • Over 6 years of post-qualification experience in ecology roles within planning or environmental consultancy
  • Membership in the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM)
  • Postgraduate qualifications (Master's or Doctorate) desirable
  • Chartered status with a professional body such as CIEEM desirable

Essential Skills:

  • Expertise in marine EIA technical areas such as aquatic ecology, marine ecology, ornithology, and commercial fisheries
  • Strong skills in project management, leadership, and technical report writing
  • Comprehensive understanding of consent and licensing frameworks for terrestrial and offshore infrastructure in Ireland

A full clean driver's license and access to a vehicle for survey travel are essential.
