Job Description

Purchasing Manager - Steel
Support the head-of-department by assisting in the development and implementation of Procurement Strategy, aligned to the overall Category Strategy for Steel (& wire).
Monitor market dynamics, industry developments, competitive landscape, and emerging technologies to identify opportunities, inform procurement decisions, and mitigate risks.
Manage product ranges within the portfolio, ensuring a competitive & innovative assortment.
Manage internal procurement processes (sales history, forecasting demand, purchase requisitions, stock purchase orders, stock transfers) as well as supply-chain considerations (capacity, constraints, lead times, delivery schedules) to ensure material requirements are met.
Optimise inventory levels to minimise stockouts and excess inventory.
Negotiate terms, conditions, price, requests for proposals, requests for quotations, and delivery charges to ensure optimal product cost.
Leverage market insight, understand competitiveness, take on board sales team feedback, and implement price management strategies to maximise profitability and competitiveness.
Utilise data-driven insights to track portfolio performance against targets (sales, cost, margin, service, stock) and drive continuous improvement.
Cross-functionally, collaborate with suppliers to build relationships that drive availability, innovation, lowest cost, and continuous improvement.
Carry out administration duties (requisitions, stock orders, stock transfers, invoice matching, bid evaluations, credit notes, etc.).
Requirements:
* Bachelor's degree in business, economics, or a related field.
* Strong commercial acumen, with 3 years of experience of developing the offer & growing sales within wholesale or retail industries, preferably in the Irish market.
* Strong procurement experience, including negotiation, with a proven record of optimising cost while building and maintaining successful supplier relationships.
* Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and market trends, translating them into insights to facilitate informed commercial decisions.
* Strong communication, engagement & presentation skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders & influence positive outcomes.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel, and experience with purchasing platforms and ERP systems.
