Job Description

Overview Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital is a major teaching hospital providing a range of acute medical, surgical, Intensive care, maternity services, day care, outpatient, diagnostic and support services. Emergency services are provided on a 365-day, 24 hour basis. The hospital has a current bed complement of 485 beds. The hospital is part of the RCSI Hospital Group. The Quality and Safety Department staff provides support to all hospital staff to enable them to incorporate safe management practice and quality in all activities in the hospital. Activities include analysing incidents and identifying trends, co-ordination of cases reported to the Coroner, co-ordination of claims made against the hospital and promoting the health and safety of staff and patients. The department strongly promotes patient advocacy through the management of complaints and compliments. The department also facilitates patient access to information through data protection and freedom of information procedures. The department works closely with the RCSI Group Quality and Safety Directorate. The Quality & Safety Manager: Is responsible for the organisation and delivery of services within the quality, risk and patient safety function of the Louth Hospitals. Supports the Hospital in the development and delivery of the Quality Improvement Programme providing evidence within hospitals that services are caring, well led, safe and effective. Have operational responsibility for the organisation and delivery of services within the Quality, Risk and Patient Safety function of the hospital to effectively manage, measure and monitor the safety of the hospital. Ensure a robust risk management process that identifies both clinical and non-clinical incidents and risks and manages these risks to minimise impacts to patients and staff, and minimise the opportunity for reoccurrence of errors. Be expected to contribute to the operational management of the hospital in and out of hours. Plays a key role in providing support and clear quality and safety frameworks for the delivery of patient care services within the accountability structures of the hospital group ensuring quality and safety play both a pivotal and complementary role in service delivery. Act independently to provide recommendations/reports for Medical, Peri-operative and Maternity Directorate. Make timely decisions that directly impact patient care, ensure timely and effective communication and collaboration within each Directorate. Panel may be formed to fill temporary/ permanent & full time/part time vacancies in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Louth Hounty Hospital & The Cottage Community Hub. Salary Scale 1/6/24 Essential Criteria Each candidate must by the latest date of application process: A minimum of 5 years Senior Managerial Experience working in an acute Hospital in-patient service, in a post that has involved quality and patient safety management as relevant to this role And A 3rd level qualification in a health related area Or An academic award in Risk Management or Quality in Healthcare on the Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) framework or equivalent. And Have experience of Incident Management processes and subsequent System Analysis Investigation processes. Experience of leading and implementing Quality improvement initiatives within a Health setting. Experience of changing organisational culture regarding Quality and Patient Safety through the delivery of education and training.
