Job Description

Research & Development Engineer sought to join a fast-paced, driven, and solution-oriented early-stage start-up working to solve a major global health challenge.

As a Research & Development Engineer, you will be part of a multi-discipline team striving to solve problems using an iterative design-build-test approach. You will fabricate, assemble, and test microfluidic devices as part of an invitro diagnostic system, working across all phases of project development. You will contribute to and lead investigations and verification activities, and help bring a game-changing platform technology to market.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Fabrication, assembly, and testing of microfluidic components/devices
  • Measurement, quality control, and data gathering
  • Development of CAD/CAM models and technical engineering data
  • Development and verification of standard operating procedures
  • Input and management of planning activities
  • Identification of design/process improvements and risk mitigation
  • Management of risk, cost, time, and product requirements
  • Working with external vendors/partners
  • Communicating and influencing across all levels

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Product Design, Design Engineering, Mechanical Engineering (or similar)
  • 2 years' experience in a medical device, engineering, or technology company (or similar)
  • Experience with digital and physical prototyping, testing/verification, and lab/workshop skills
  • Good understanding of fundamental engineering/scientific principles and analysis techniques
  • Experience of 3D CAD software, technical drawings, and simulation tools
  • Experience of part/system design and development, along with different manufacturing techniques, materials, and processes
  • Creative problem-solving mindset, good analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
