About the Role

This is a research and development engineer position that involves:

  • Generating product and tooling drawings to support quotations, prototyping, and process development.
  • Developing product and process concepts, presenting, prototyping, and testing.
  • Supporting the sales and marketing team with technical expertise.
  • Creating assembly and project quotations and communicating effectively with customers.
  • Dealing with customer enquiries and providing clear written and oral communication.
  • Developing products, processes, and equipment, including product and material specifications, material sourcing, equipment and tooling specifications, process development, and testing.
  • Managing projects to ensure commitments are met, including functional prototypes, delivery dates, design iteration samples, test protocols, and reports.
  • Ensuring compliance with quality, regulatory, health, and safety legislation, including design history files, design inputs, outputs, design reviews, logbooks, and full traceability of design development and control of changes.
  • Ensuring the transfer of new products to manufacturing areas, allowing for product and process validation to begin.
  • Providing comprehensive training to production, quality, and technical staff for a smooth production start, including validations and records.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement efficient development processes that are effective and compliant.
  • Apply Lean GROWTH principles, especially 3P, 5S, DMAIC, and 6 sigma.
  • Train and develop junior engineers and other technical staff.
  • Assign tasks and provide support and assistance to the development team.
  • Provide assistance and support to other departments as required, including production, quality, and technical.
  • Participate in CAPA, audit, validation, MRB/NCMR activities as required.

Requirements

  • Third-level qualification in engineering or science, preferably in mechanical or biomedical, or minimum bachelor's degree in a science/technology/engineering-related discipline (mechanical, manufacturing, automation, or equivalent).
  • Ideal design capability with CAD systems (Solid Edge).
  • Ideal 2-3 years' previous experience in a medical devices environment with knowledge of medical device products and associated manufacturing processes, particularly extrusion-based catheter assemblies.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Motivated and self-starting.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing, fast-paced environments.
  • High level of computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Solid Edge and MS Project desirable.
