**Research Scientist in Ruminant Livestock Nutrition and Biotechnology** A highly qualified Research Scientist is sought to develop and lead a cutting-edge research programme in ruminant animal nutrition and biotechnology, focusing on improving economic and environmental sustainability of ruminant livestock production systems. **Location:** Teagasc Animal & Grassland Research and Innovation Centre, Grange **Job Description:** The Research Scientist will develop, implement and lead an innovative ruminant animal nutrition research programme, exploiting state-of-the-art molecular-based science to support improved economic and environmental sustainability of ruminant livestock production systems. Key responsibilities include: * Developing and managing experiments, statistically analysing and publishing results * Managing staff and resources assigned to the research programme * Identifying opportunities for cutting-edge research to address key knowledge gaps * Leading successful submissions for external funding to develop critical mass in the area * Developing and maintaining active collaboration with national and international research organisations * Interpreting and publishing research results in scientific and popular press, at conferences and to stakeholders **Key Requirements:** * Honours Level 8 qualification in Agricultural Science or a related discipline * PhD degree in a relevant discipline * Post-doctoral experience in application of biotechnology to ruminant livestock based research * Advanced bioinformatics skills with particular emphasis on metagenomics * Knowledge of nutritional factors influencing productivity and environmental sustainability of ruminant livestock * Ability to work on own initiative, as part of a team, and to communicate effectively to enable knowledge and technology transfer **Job Objectives:** * Develop and lead a cutting-edge research programme in ruminant animal nutrition and biotechnology * Design and manage experiments to investigate the impact of nutrition on biological performance of cattle and sheep * Publish research results in scientific and popular press, at conferences and to stakeholders * Collaborate with national and international research organisations to develop and maintain active research links * Supervise postgraduate students to Masters and PhD level **Skills and Knowledge:** * Research skills: experimental design, data management, molecular laboratory based analyses, statistical analysis and interpretation of experimental data * Dissemination skills: verbal presentation/communication skills, scientific and technical writing skills * Ability to initiate and lead a research programme * Capacity to successfully develop collaborative research links with national and international research organisations **Company Overview:** Teagasc is a leader in the development and support of competitive, profitable and sustainable systems of pasture-based ruminant livestock production in Ireland.
