IMaR Research Centre Researcher Industrial Integration, Monitoring & Control Engineering The Munster Technological University- Tralee has established a world-class research centre in the area of Intelligent Mechatronics and Radio-frequency identification (RFID), i.e. The Intelligent Mechatronics and RFID Centre (The IMaR Centre). The principal theme of the IMaR Research Centre is the synergy between mechatronics, Sensors, RFID, Internet of Things (IoT) and Data Analytics for industrial applications driven by new technology, innovation and global demand. IMaR consists of two research strands Intelligent Mechatronics and Industrial IoT & Data Analytics both focused on the delivery of a wide range of automation, identification and manufacturing services. The overall mission of the IMaR Centre is to be industries partner of choice for the provision of innovative applied research. The IMaR Centre will serve a cross section of industries including Automotive, Telecommunications, Pharmaceutical, Production / Manufacturing, Retail, Aeronautical, Environmental, healthcare and Agri-business. The centre is core funded by Enterprise Ireland and houses state-of-the-art research facilities. The overall mission of the IMaR Centre is to be industries partner of choice for the provision of innovative applied research. The IMaR Centre will serve a cross section of industries including Automotive, Telecommunications, Pharmaceutical, Production / Manufacturing, Aeronautical, Environmental, healthcare and Agri-business. IMaR is also a member of Lero:- The Irish software research centre. Position We are looking for a highly experienced Researcher to join the research team at IMaR. The successful candidate will collaboratively work and contribute to a cutting-edge research project for robotics and machine integration in the manufacturing domain. The Researcher will have a track record of research and development in automated manufacturing systems and a thorough appreciation of relevant state of the art hardware and software. The Researcher will have industrial engineering experience in industry or academia (or equivalent) and will work with the industrial partner in the integration of which several diverse industrial automation and monitoring systems to create an integrated production system. The successful candidate will, in collaboration with the industrial partner and other members of the IMaR research team, design and implement project tasks and delivery of critical tasks including the integration of industrial manufacturing systems and full production control. The candidate will be responsible for: Development, scrutiny, and acceptance of functional requirements specifications, in collaboration with the research team including the industrial partners, Researching potential automation methods / architectures (predominantly machine control software and integration), Contribute to outline manufacturing line integration and control as well as system design concepts. Robotics, Machine control and systems integration Collaborate with other researchers working with IMaR and the industry partner to deliver a robust, configurable, and effective prototype system, roject documentation including, risk management, change control and effectively disseminating the research results. Qualifications and Experience Applicants are required to have a minimum of a Masters or a PhD (or equivalent industrial R&D experience) in addition to experience in an industrial or academic setting in the area of industrial engineering, automation, machine monitoring, machine control systems and industrial system integration. The candidate will have a degree in Software, Manufacturing, Electronic, Mechatronic or another relevant engineering / science degree. The candidate must display research and development experience and a track record of successfully delivering industrial automation systems in industrial or academic settings. Candidates must also demonstrate the following: An in-depth theoretical and practical knowledge of industrial integration methods: Industrial Machine Integration & Control Industrial manufacturing monitoring systems Industrial communications Simulation / off-line testing of production systems A general programming proficiency (such as for industrial software, PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems). A working knowledge of industrial sensing and data capture. A good working knowledge of industrial communications protocols and the ability to implement these in an industrial setting. A high level of proficiency in industrial software, comms and system integration design and implementation and an understanding of the Machinery Directive. A willingness and aptitude for hands-on development / experimental work. Strong organizational skills and an ability to manage resources, competing priorities and change control / risk management. Previous experience in industrial engineering, industrial automation, software integration, communications and system implementation in a manufacturing environment. The following skills / attributes are desirable: An understanding of manufacturing processes and industrial environment. Familiarity and ideally experience working with automated machine monitoring methods Familiarity with the processing of GRP materials A working knowledge of Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) technologies Familiarity with industrial manufacturing technologies, particularly GFRP and related production methods / machinery. An ability to progress, on time and on budget, product ideas / technical concepts to prototype/final products and to lead a team accordingly. A strong interest in emerging technologies and a strong motivation to develop a personal research profile and to contribute to the ongoing success of the IMaR Research Centre. Duration of Contract:This position is for a fixed-term 30 month contract. Salary: An attractive salary on the MTU Researcher scale will apply to this post, dependant on the candidates experience and qualifications.
