Job Description

Resident Engineer - Roads - Limerick 6-month day rate contract Job Overview: We are seeking an experienced Resident Engineer to oversee the construction and delivery of a road and active travel project in Limerick. The successful candidate will act as the primary point of contact between the main contractor and the client, ensuring that the project is delivered on time, within budget, and in accordance with all relevant specifications, standards, and health & safety regulations. Key Responsibilities: Supervision of Construction Works: Oversee the main contractor's work on-site, ensuring adherence to design specifications, engineering standards, and contractual obligations. Monitor and inspect daily construction activities, including roadworks, cycle paths, pedestrian walkways, and related infrastructure. Quality Control: Review and approve material submittals, shop drawings, and method statements from the contractor. Conduct regular inspections and tests to ensure high-quality workmanship and adherence to design specifications. Identify defects or non-compliance issues, report them promptly, and ensure corrective measures are implemented. Health & Safety: Ensure that the contractor adheres to all relevant health and safety standards, implementing risk assessments and safe work practices. Conduct site safety audits and report any safety concerns or incidents to senior management and the contractor. Coordination & Communication: Liaise with project stakeholders, including local authorities, utilities, and members of the public, to ensure smooth coordination of works. Maintain clear communication between the client, contractor, and design team, facilitating regular progress meetings and reports. Address any on-site technical queries and provide engineering support to resolve design or construction issues. Project Management: Monitor and report on project progress, ensuring key milestones and deadlines are met. Manage variations, contractual claims, and ensure adherence to project budgets. Environmental and Community Considerations: Ensure that the project is delivered with minimal environmental impact, following relevant environmental legislation and mitigation strategies. Address any community concerns or issues that arise during the project, ensuring minimal disruption to local stakeholders. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field. Experience working on infrastructure projects Strong understanding of Irish building regulations, road design standards and safety regulations.
