Job Description

Tallaght University Hospital (TUH) is an exciting and dynamic place to work. The Senior Clinical Engineering Technician will participate through the operational structure of the MPCE Department in the provision of clinical engineering services in the Hospital.

Overview of role:

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Provide the Department's administration with such records of his/her work as are deemed to be necessary

Contribute as required to the development of the Department's policies and services, where required, through participation in the work of, and contributing to the management of, the appropriate operational teams and groups

Provide maintenance services for electromedical, theatre, renal, endoscopic and/or other equipment in respect of its functional, electronic, optical, electrical and mechanical aspects to a standard of safety, accuracy and reliability consistent with its function and with professional standards

Assist with the co-ordination and implementation of the preventative schedule maintenance and safety programmes

Advise on the selection, specification, acceptance testing, commissioning and safety of new equipment and services

Advise where required, on new technical installations

Support the nursing, medical and technical staff in the implementation of patient care involving technology

Develop as required specialist fields of interest within the fields of Clinical Engineering

Participate, as required, in education, training and research programmes

The holder of the post will be encouraged to obtain Professional Engineering Registration Status

Participate if required to do so in the 24 hours on-call service

Supervision of other staff as required

Provide in-house training as required, and develop relevant skills as trainer/educator

Undertake courses, education and training programmes to the level required for professional development and performance of duties

Assist with efficient management of the hospital's budget in relevant areas of responsibility

Participate in academic activities as per the hospital's teaching agreements with Trinity College Dublin and with academic institutions and in other academic activities as required and directed by the Head of Department

Participate, as required, in the Departments out of normal working hours On Call system

Contribute as required to the development of the Department's policies and services, where required, through participation in the work of, and contributing to the management of, the appropriate operational teams and groups

To maintain close liaison with the Principal Clinical Engineering Technician / Equipment Library Officer in the day to day running of the Medical Equipment Library (MEL)

Maintenance of computerised inventory of equipment in the MEL

All activities shall be carried out in a professional manner at least in accordance with the Engineers Ireland code of ethics

Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Head of Clinical Engineering Services / Line Manager

Qualifications & Experience required

Must have:

Hold as a minimum a recognised qualification at National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ), Level 7 or higher, in one of the following engineering disciplines;

Electronic

Electrical

Instrument Physics

Applied Physics

Mechanical

Biomedical Engineering

Or

Hold a recognised qualification at least equivalent to one of the above

And

Have a minimum of three years postgraduate satisfactory and relevant experience in an appropriate medical industrial field including at least two years in a clinical engineering environment

Candidates must possess the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and administrative capacity) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office

In addition to the minimum qualifications detailed above, the successful candidate is likely to have experience in the following areas, Intensive Care, Theatre, Coronary Care, Endoscopy, and Emergency Department.

And

Experience working on ventilators, physiological monitoring, anaesthetic machines, defibrillators and life support equipment.
