- Education
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Completion of Coding Course
- Experience
- 3 years of Coder experience
- Skills
- Expert knowledge in ICD 10, CPT, HCPCS, DRG and PCS classification systems
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate with clinical staff
- Ability to communicate effectively with different levels of management
- Demonstrates competency with the use of computers and various computer programs
- Visual acuity necessary to read and decipher handwriting and electronic documentation
- Ability to make routine decisions in accordance with departmental policies and procedures
- Licensure/Certification/Registration
- One of the following core credentials: Inpatient Coding- RHIA, RHIT, CCS or CIC, Outpatient Coding- CPC, CIC, COC, RHIT, RHIA, CCS or CRC, Profee Coding- CPC, CIC, COC, RHIT, RHIA, CCS or CRC
- Additional Approved Specialty Certification: CANPC, CCC, CCVTC, CEDC, CGIC, CGSC, CHONC, CIRCC, COBGC, COSC, CPEDC, CUC
