This role offers the unique opportunity to be at the forefront of something new, where your contributions will directly shape the future direction and success of the business.We are seeking a dynamic and motivated individual to fill the role of Senior Director of Supply Chain and Logistics in Ireland. This position will serve as the principal developer, leader, and change champion for supply planning, logistics, and transportation functions. In this role, you will manage a robust, high-performing supply chain and logistics internal team, as well as work closely with suppliers and logistics partners to optimize supply chain processes to ensure continuous compliance, improvement, and efficiency.Careers with Optum offer flexible work arrangements, and individuals who live and work in the Republic of Ireland will have the opportunity to split their monthly work hours between our Dublin or Letterkenny and telecommuting from a home-based office in a hybrid work model.Primary ResponsibilitiesOversee a team responsible for the new service line’s supply chain planning and execution functions, including sourcing biopharmaceutical products from manufacturers, importing products from various global locations into the United States, and designing a supply chain based on Good Distribution Practices (GDP).Build and lead robust strategies, procedures, and processes for the Supply Chain and Logistics function.Lead strategy and oversight for a global team, which includes working with cold chain biopharmaceutical products, ground/air/ocean transportation, customs clearance, distribution, warehousing, and inventory management.Act as primary point of contact to manage business relationships with external suppliers through regular reviews and ensuring good standing.Assess and determine resource requirements to support currently forecasted and projected business growth.Lead the design, measurement, and reporting of key performance indicators (KPIs) to track and proactively improve operational performance across the supply chain.Work with internal cross-functional teams to corroborate medium and long-term demand forecasts, and with manufacturer and distributor partners to optimize the capacity planning model.Design and implement policies and procedures based on GDP and in compliance with Optum’s Quality Management System (QMS) and other applicable regulations.Work with the regulatory/quality teams to ensure that supply chain activities are compliant with applicable regulatory requirements.Identify and execute projects to unlock operational efficiencies.Required QualificationsProven extensive experience in Supply Chain Management within the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry (or equivalent bachelor’s degree in related field).Minimum of 8 years of supervisory experience.Significant experience and understanding of European Medicines Agency Good Distribution Practices (GDP).Strong knowledge of and experience managing the end-to-end operations process, including global and local transportation, customs clearance, licenses/regulations, distribution, storage, and inventory management of medicinal products.Strong leadership and people management skills; ability to lead teams effectively and help set and achieve performance goals.Proven ability and success in fostering a positive, high-performing environment to successfully manage logistics operations and drive continuous improvement.SAP expertise to analyze data, customize logistics tools, and improve supply chain efficiency.Strong operations and supply chain background, particularly in warehouse operations and 3PL, in a high-volume supply chain.Proven track record in successfully managing/overseeing WMS/TMS/QMS implementation projects.Strategic problem solver with a results-oriented approach.Ability to influence and lead both internal cross-functional teams, as well as external suppliers and partners.Adaptable with the ability to operate in highly ambiguous environments.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written); ability to participate in strategic discussions with management and Optum executive team.Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions.Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.Preferred QualificationsStrong analytical skills for process optimization and performance evaluation.Prior experience working with biopharmaceutical cold chain processes.Familiarity with biopharmaceutical QMS specifications and processes.Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and U.S. FDA CFR Title 21, particularly on the holding and distribution of drug products.Excellent negotiation and communication skills.Professional certifications in supply chain management (e.g., APICS, CSCP).Ability to adapt supply chains to changing market conditions and business strategies.Experience with manufacturing requirements, general procedures, and planning.Successful project management experience and coordinating projects.All telecommuters will be required to adhere to the UnitedHealth Group’s Telecommuter Policy.At UnitedHealth Group, our mission is to help people live healthier lives and make the health system work better for everyone.
