DesignBuild Search are working closely with a market leading M&E Contractor who continue to expand throughout Ireland, UK and Europe. Due to growth in the Northeast of England they have an opening for a Senior Electrical Quantity Surveyor in Billingham, the successful applicant will be involved on a large pharmaceutical project. As a Senior Electrical QS, you will play a crucial role in overseeing the electrical cost management and quantity surveying activities for the project. You will collaborate closely with the project team, including engineers, BIM, estimation, procurement, sub-contractors, and clients, to ensure accurate and efficient cost control, estimation, and reporting. This is in a region where further growth is expected and is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious QS to grow their career with support and guidance from our senior commercial team members. Minimum: Relevant third level qualification essential in Quantity Surveying/ Construction Economics or related field. Proven experience as a Senior Electrical QS on large-scale construction projects, preferably within the Pharmaceutical or Data Centre sector. In-depth knowledge of electrical systems, components, and installation practices. Strong expertise in electrical cost control, estimation, and quantity surveying techniques. Proficiency in using relevant QS software and tools (e.g., CostX, Bluebeam, Countfire, Excel). Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders. Exceptional organizational and time management abilities. Familiarity with local regulations and industry standards related to electrical works. Responsibilities include: Electrical Cost Management Collaborate closely with the estimation team to review and validate electrical cost estimates for each project. Manage all aspects of electrical cost control and identify potential commercial risks and ensure prompt reporting of same to management. Conduct cost analysis and value engineering exercises to identify cost-saving opportunities. Monitor and track electrical project costs, including variations, change orders, and progress payments both upstream and downstream. Quantity Surveying Collaborate with the estimation / BIM team to ensure accurate quantity take-offs and bills of quantities for electrical systems and installations in each project. Review electrical drawings and specification revisions to ensure any changes are identified. Conduct site visits and inspections to assess electrical work progress, validate quantities, and address any discrepancies. Evaluate subcontractor's claims and prepare reports on quantities, rates, and payment applications. Contract Administration Administer the contract for each project in collaboration with the project team, ensuring compliance with contract terms and conditions. Review and analyse contractual agreements, identifying key contractual obligations, milestones, and deliverables. Manage the contractual correspondence, including change orders, claims, and dispute resolution, in coordination with the project team. Collaborate with the legal / compliance team to ensure adherence to legal and regulatory requirements. Labor and Performance Monitoring Maintain and implement systems for tracking labour resources and performance on electrical works for each project. Monitor labour productivity, efficiency, and performance to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective measures. Collaborate with project managers and site supervisors to gather labour-related data and analyse productivity trends. Prepare reports on labour S/E, productivity, and performance indicators for each project individually. Cost Reporting and Documentation Generate regular cost reports, forecasts, and cash flow projections for electrical works. Maintain accurate records of all electrical cost-related documents, contracts, and correspondence. Prepare and present cost reports to project stakeholders, highlighting key findings and recommendations. Assist in the preparation of final accounts and settlement of claims. Team Collaboration Collaborate with the project team, including Contracts Manager, electrical engineers, BIM, project managers, to ensure effective communication and coordination. Provide guidance and mentorship to junior quantity surveyors and contribute to their professional development. Liaise with clients, contractors, and suppliers to address any electrical cost-related queries or issues.
