Senior Engineer Job Description
Lead a team of engineers on multi-million-euro projects, ensuring buildability, safety, and quality control.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review designs for buildability and generate schedules of issues for each construction stage.
- Maintain issue lists and update during construction, reviewing regularly with the Project Manager.
- Ensure engineering and technical resources are available to fulfill all engineering duties.
- Provide leadership to engineering staff and understand mentoring and training requirements.
- Liaise with design teams to ensure construction teams have required information.
- Generate and maintain RFI schedules and hold people accountable for design information.
- Provide clear reporting to project management teams on design status and impact.
- Be aware of project programs and challenge designs for commercial benefits.
- Take responsibility for dimensional control and setting out for construction works.
- Ensure robust checking systems are in place for setting out and monitoring.
- Submit technical submissions within required timescales and take note of approval periods.
- Generate Inspection and Test Plan Schedules and review method statements and risk assessments.
- Carry out inspections and audits, delegate to team members, and agree responsibility for packages of works.
- Sign off on subcontract packages and ensure they conform to specifications and contract documents.
- Ensure contractors adopt safe systems of work and review method statements before works commence.
- Take responsibility for coordination of temporary works and maintain a temporary works register.
- Participate in weekly engineering meetings and provide updates to project management teams.
- Ensure all relevant persons are in attendance and report on individual package values.
- Maintain detailed diaries and ensure site engineers do the same.
- Ensure design coordination allows for building services and flag problems to project managers.
- Attend weekly design meetings and ensure BIM usage is endorsed and employed.
- Understand and employ the project/company quality system to ensure quality assurance.
- Request training to ensure compliance with quality systems and ensure contractors comply with quality control.
- Employ a system for contractors to offer works for inspection and close out actions before approval.
- Generate an NCR register and maintain during construction, holding responsible persons and contractors to account.
- Provide weekly reports to project management and commercial teams on progress and noncompliance.
- Agree snagging process with project managers and take responsibility for snagging programs.
- Hold subcontractors to account, close out snags, and provide a schedule of lessons learnt.
- Provide assistance to close out subcontractor accounts and advise engineers on setting out methods.
- Take responsibility for selection and requisition of materials and plant, ensuring purchasing procedures are adhered to.
- Carry out work in accordance with health and safety and legal requirements, ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Manage the performance of employees assigned to you in accordance with legislation and company procedures.
- Attend and engage in learning and development activities and participate in company appraisal/performance review processes.
Requirements:
- Relevant Engineering Degree
- Ability to work within a dynamic team of professionals
- Ability to perform multiple tasks at a high level of quality
- Ability to work well within a deadline environment
- Minimum of 8 years' experience with a Main Contractor in Ireland or the UK
- Motivated individual with excellent communication skills
