Job Description

**Commercial Estimator** A commercial estimator is responsible for managing the commercial aspects of construction projects, ensuring that projects are secured to required margins and that budgets are in place. Key Functions & Results Areas: * Maintain a weekly log of tender enquiries and a pipeline of potential projects that fit with the company's requirements. * Measure drawings and prepare Bills of Quantities (BOQs). * Negotiate prices with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure quotations are competitive. * Prepare rate build-ups for all elements of work to required margins. * Ensure quotations are returned within the tender period. * Conduct value engineering exercises and make cost-saving proposals to the Main Contractor/Client. * Maintain a close working relationship with the Commercial Manager. * Communicate closely with potential clients, following up on quotations and the status of each project quoted. * Negotiate with clients to ensure projects are secured to required margins. * Prepare budgets based on costs at tender stage. * Handover projects to other departments – operations, design, and QS. * Identify potential risks and opportunities. * Assist in developing relationships with new clients and securing new projects. * Represent the commercial department during the pre-construction phase of projects. * Ensure commercially favourable rates are agreed with all suppliers and plant hire companies. * Source alternative suppliers where appropriate. * Assist the operations team in securing subcontract labour. * Set an example of the company's professional image at all levels of contact. * Ensure similar conduct from subcontractors and supervisors. * Perform other reasonable duties as required by the directors, management or consultants appointed by the directors. **Person Specification:** * A construction-related college degree or equivalent; construction science or engineering degree preferred. * At least 5 years of successfully involvement in estimating envelope contracts. * Ability to read and interpret drawing specifications for roofing projects. * Knowledge in roofing and cladding construction methods and practices. * Effective communication, supervision, and managerial skills. * High level of computer skills including Excel, Word, Power Point, and Outlook. * Microsoft Project is a plus. * Excellent IT skills. * Excellent organisational skills. * Budget management experience and demonstrable attention to detail. * Strong team player. * Current driver's licence.
