Technical Animator We are seeking an experienced Technical Animator to design and implement complex animation systems for our AAA video game. Technical Animator Larian is a renowned game development studio seeking a skilled Technical Animator to join our team in Guildford. As a Technical Animator, you will play a crucial role in designing and implementing complex animation systems that enhance the player experience. Responsibilities • Develop, test, and maintain complex animation systems in collaboration with animators, gameplay programmers, and other team members. • Provide technical support on animation tools and editors to the Animation and Cinematics team. • Assist in the design, integration, and validation of animation assets. • Work closely with Animation, Code, and Design teams to achieve the desired animation style in-game. • Implement procedural animation systems to reduce workload and improve character visual quality. • Debug animation graphs to resolve gameplay animation issues. • Participate in and supervise the integration of animation assets into the game engine. • Collaborate to ensure compliance with technical, aesthetic, and gameplay constraints. • Research and stay up-to-date with the latest developments in animation systems. • Support the Lead of the department in various tasks and duties. Requirements • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in AAA video game development. • Strong and practical understanding of animation logic, node graphs, IK, animation trees, and similar engine editors and technologies. • Strong character animation skills and understanding of animation principles. • Experience working with high-fidelity motion capture. • Good understanding of rigging, skinning, and related character technologies. • Ability to document and explain work clearly and concisely. • Team-oriented and collaborative approach. • Ability to take direction and feedback positively, adapt to change, and thrive under pressure. • Enthusiastic, methodical, and organized approach to work with high-quality standards. • Sense of initiative, originality, and resourcefulness in problem solving. • Good written and verbal communication skills in English. Nice to Have • Strong knowledge of Autodesk Maya, with experience in Motionbuilder and similar packages a bonus. • Passion for player experience and willingness to contribute to making amazing RPG experiences.
