Senior High Volume Automation Engineering Manager
Lead the development, installation, and support of high-volume automated manufacturing systems, collaborating with partners in R&D to develop new products for automation.
About the Role
- Define and execute deliverables in the development and delivery of fully automated manufacturing platforms.
- Engage with Process and Product Design teams early in the process to ensure Design for Automation is implemented.
- Ensure process and tooling design capabilities through comprehensive technical reviews, physical and simulated testing, and robust documentation.
- Work with internal and external partners to produce tooling, platform prototypes, and demonstrate manufacturing capability.
- Responsible for team's professional development to promote engagement, growth, job satisfaction, and organizational health.
- Collaborate across Medtronic to ensure best practices are employed in product, process, and tooling design and development.
- Manage relations with equipment suppliers to ensure effective equipment design and on-time delivery.
- Identify, plan, and maintain resource needs, cost centre budget, employee assignment, and staffing decisions.
- Ensure engineering approach and designs conform to applicable industry standards and Medtronic procedures.
- Plan, direct, and implement all aspects of automated manufacturing for the company's design and development of new medical device products.
- Oversee the investigation and evaluation of existing manufacturing technologies.
- Monitor documentation maintenance throughout all phases of process and tooling development.
- Travel, sometimes for extended periods, to international and domestic destinations for equipment development, construction, and implementation.
- Work, manage, and engage remotely with multidisciplinary teams across multiple time zones and geographies.
Requirements
- Level 8 Honors Bachelor's degree in engineering or related discipline.
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience with 7+ years of managerial experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience with 7+ years of managerial experience.
- 10+ years' experience in development, transfer, implementing, and managing of high-volume (+12 M), electromechanical automated assembly systems.
- Strong problem-solving, risk assessment, and negotiation skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills.
- Able to travel 25% or more of the time, as required to accomplish business goals.
