Job Description

Senior Mechanical Design Engineer sought for a leading innovator in robotic automation, shaping the future of custom robotic solutions for industries including Pharma, Food, and Life Science.

Our client, a rapidly expanding company based in the sunny South East, designs, manufactures, and integrates custom robotic automation solutions for various industries. As a key member of the design team, you will lead projects through the full 3D modeling design phase, ensuring the highest standards of quality and performance.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead mechanical design projects from kickoff through to design completion, ensuring adherence to project methodology and user requirements.
  • Plan, monitor, and report on project progress, including design reviews, schedule updates, and budget tracking.
  • Oversee both internal and external design reviews, while monitoring detailed design drawings and bills of material.
  • Maintain accurate data in the Product Data Management (PDM) system.
  • Train and supervise junior engineers, providing support on PDM usage.
  • Specify and source off-the-shelf components, liaise with manufacturers, and coordinate with OEM equipment providers.
  • Conduct risk assessments for CE marking compliance.
  • Collaborate with the Automation and Electrical teams to ensure the design meets mechanical, automation, electrical, safety, and performance requirements.
  • Uphold the company's values for GMP design, ease of use, maintenance, repeatability, and efficiency.
  • Manage the internal design specifications and support the machine building team.
  • Generate inputs for machine manuals and other client-required documentation.
  • Attend and lead customer meetings throughout the design process, including kickoff, design qualification, and project handover.
  • Assist senior management with customer escalations, project risk mitigation, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Candidate Requirements:

  • BSc or B.Eng in Mechatronics or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Proficiency in CAD tools (Solid Works, Auto CAD) and PDM systems.
  • 5+ years in a mechanical design role within the packaging industry, machine building, or robotics.
  • Project management experience.
  • Automated machine build is advantageous.
  • Strong communication, delegation, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective time management and a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Proven ability to collaborate across teams and contribute to strategic goals.
