Job Description:
As a Senior Medical Scientist, you will play a key role in the management of laboratory pre and post analytical activities, working closely with the Laboratory Manager and nominated deputy to promote and preserve the Bon Secours Mission, Values, and Ethos.
You will be responsible for the leadership and development of laboratory pre and post analytical activities, ensuring the performance of assigned work is to the highest professional standard.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and develop laboratory pre and post analytical activities
- Support the principle that care of the patient always comes first
- Participate in the improvement and development of services within the laboratory
- Manage and oversee external referrals processes pertaining to immunology and miscellaneous referral testing
- Ensure all policies in relation to record keeping are followed
- Participate in laboratory meetings and contribute to effective communication within the department
- Maintain and improve quality in the department by participating in and facilitating Quality Assurance and Audit
- Be familiar with electronic information systems and proficient in their use
- Co-operate with the Consultants, Laboratory Manager, and Pathology Service Business Manager
- Participate in evaluating and validating equipment, consumables, and research projects
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Medical Science or equivalent
- Possess one of the following NFQ Level 9 post graduate qualifications or equivalent
- Must be registered with CORU or eligible for membership
Essential Experience:
- Four years full time clinical experience as a medical scientist in a clinical diagnostic laboratory
Essential Skills, Competencies and/or Knowledge:
- Demonstrate evidence of theoretical and practical knowledge of clinical Specimen Reception
- Demonstrate knowledge of best practices in delivering a quality laboratory service
- Demonstrate the ability to identify and resolve system failures
- Demonstrate good time management skills and the ability to manage large workloads
- Demonstrate effective communication skills
