Job Description

Unijobs on behalf of our public sector client, are currently recruiting for a Senior Pharmacist for 3 months initially but likely to extended thereafter. This role is fully onsite, based in Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe, Co. Galway. Working 35 hours per week the successful candidate will be employed as an agency employee and will be paid an hourly rate of €39.35 per hour based on an annualised salary of €71,868. The successful candidate will accrue annual leave and paid Bank Holidays. Purpose of the Post The post holder will be required to support hospital pharmacy services in Portiuncula University Hospital. Eligibility Criteria Eligible applicants will be those who on submission of completed application: Be a registered Pharmacist with the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (PSI) or be entitled to be so registered. And Have at least three years satisfactory post registration hospital experience. And Possess the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The post holder will support the principle that care of the patient comes first at all times and will approach their work with the flexibility and enthusiasm necessary to make this principle a reality for every patient to the greatest possible degree Maintain throughout the Group's awareness of the primacy of the patient in relation to all hospital activities. Performance management systems are part of role and you will be required to participate in the Group's performance management programme To have responsibility for the provision of a comprehensive pharmaceutical service including: The supervision and supply of drugs, pharmaceuticals and other related items as may be required To ensure that the purchase, storage and supply of all items is operated on the most economical lines, consistent with quality at pharmacy, ward and department levels, and with reference to legal requirements, transit, security and conditions of chemical and physical stability The development and expansion of a ward pharmacy service The maintenance of records for purchasing, quality control, compounding and dispensing to the standards required The provision of advice as required to medical and nursing staff on the proper and economic use of drugs and medicines including participation in schemes for the dissemination of information in relation to drugs and drugs usage To co-operate with clinical, scientific and nursing staff on the maintenance and development of new methods of treatment To participate in the hospitals Drugs and Therapeutics Committee and Infection Control Committee where such committees exist To ensure that the needs of patients and professional staff are being adequately met by the pharmaceutical service provided To supervise and manage and pharmacist and other staff assigned to him/her To participate in the teaching and training (including in-service training) of pharmacy and other staff as may be required Where a Chief Pharmacist has been assigned, to co-operate with assist him/her in the performance of his/her duties and responsibilities as required Have a working Knowledge of the health information and quality Authority (hiqa) standards as they apply to the role for example, Standards for Healthcare, national Standards for the prevention and control of healthcare Associated infections, Hygiene Standards etc and comply with associated HSE protocols for implementing and maintaining these standards as appropriate to the role. To support, promote and actively participate in sustainable energy, water and waste initiatives to create a more sustainable, low carbon and efficient health service.
