We are looking to recruit a highly motivated, technically skilled and caring Senior Therapy Radiographer to join well established Radiotherapy teams in Waterford and Cork. We are seeking experienced Senior Radiation Therapist to join these expanding Radiation Oncology Departments on a permanent basis. Both opportunities offer flexibility, with options to work full-time or part-time. The Successful Candidate: As a Senior Radiation Therapist, you will work closely with a team of Radiation Oncologists, Medical Physicists, and fellow Radiation Therapists. This role provides the opportunity to collaborate with some of the best in the field, using advanced treatment systems to improve patient outcomes. You will also have the chance to engage in research, clinical trials, and quality improvement initiatives, further contributing to the department's innovative approach to cancer care. Position Overview: In your role of Senior Radiation Therapist, you will be responsible for overseeing the safe and accurate delivery of radiation treatment to patients. You will provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to other Radiation Therapists, ensuring the highest standards of care are maintained. Additionally, you will be actively involved in department planning, quality assurance, and service development, while also offering compassionate support to patients throughout their treatment journey. Key Responsibilities: Consistently fosters an environment of care, compassion, and support for patients of all ages, as well as for visitors, medical personnel, and colleagues. Administers radiation therapy in accordance with prescribed plans and written directives, ensuring patient safety by adhering to established departmental protocols for treatment delivery Identifies any deviations from the prescribed treatment and promptly reports them to the Physics team. Ensures accurate and thorough documentation of treatment records to maintain the quality of care. Maintains high standards of consistency in treatment by obtaining, interpreting, and evaluating electronic images, making necessary adjustments per departmental guidelines. Clearly explains procedures to patients and families, referring any medical inquiries to the appropriate professionals. At the request of a Radiation Oncologist, performs CT simulations and clinical mark-ups, determining the most suitable immobilization method for each patient. Administers oral and IV contrast agents (with necessary competencies) for simulation procedures, as requested by the Radiation Oncologist. Gathers and records data from the simulation process and enters it accurately into the ARIA system. Supports the orientation and supervision of students during clinical rotations and assists the designated Student Liaison Radiation Therapists in assessing student performance. Uses effective communication and interpersonal skills to explain treatment procedures, address patient concerns, and report both expected and unexpected reactions to treatment to the appropriate staff. Reinforces education on side effect management and alerts medical/nursing staff to any patient non-compliance. Performs and documents daily and weekly quality assurance checks on assigned equipment, reporting any discrepancies to the Physics team immediately. Participates in quality improvement initiatives within the department. Attends multidisciplinary meetings as needed to coordinate patient care. Supervises and trains junior radiotherapy staff, ensuring competency in various areas is achieved. Participates in individual performance reviews and contributes to the implementation of staff development plans. Assists the Clinical Specialist team in developing and introducing new technologies and procedures. Remains familiar with administrative duties within the department and provides coverage when required. Takes responsibility for personal continuous professional development in accordance with CORU state registration guidelines. Eligibility Criteria: Must hold a recognised qualification in Radiation Therapy. Must hold current CORU registration. Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Radiation Therapist, Demonstrated leadership and management skills with the ability to motivate and guide a team. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary team. Commitment to continuous professional development and staying updated with advancements in the field. Proven experience in quality assurance, clinical audits, and service development in a Radiation Oncology Department. Excellent time management, organisational skills, and attention to detail.
