Toast is driven by building the restaurant platform that helps restaurants adapt, take control, and get back to what they do best: building the businesses they love.Payment processing is a key source of Toast’s revenue and also the lifeblood of our customers’ business: we process multiple millions of dollars in transactions every day.We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our team as we scale our systems to meet future demands.The Payment Processing team is responsible for processing credit card payments on behalf of our restaurants. Our system is a set of Java/Kotlin Dropwizard services deployed to AWS, interacting with thousands of Android tablets using modern payment hardware, as well as with partners through our API.About this role:Have full ownership of a key component in our payment processing systemDesign, build, deploy, and maintain highly resilient and scalable systems that are critical to our customers’ successLearn from our scaling problems, and implement solutions to those problemsDiagnose performance bottlenecks and implement optimizationsInvestigate and solve payment processing issues to improve the customer experienceAnalyze data and understand the trendsDo you have the right ingredients?Good understanding of distributed event-driven systemsExperience in Java, Kotlin, or other object-oriented language(s)Proficiency in SQL and expertise in database schema designPassionate about writing awesome code and delivering impactful scalable solutionsYou are respectful, empathetic, and humbleYou have a growth mindset with an emphasis on improving yourself and your teamYou balance getting things done with platform stability.Our Spread of Total RewardsWe strive to provide competitive compensation and benefits programs that help to attract, retain, and motivate the best and brightest people in our industry.
