Senior Speech and Language Therapist required to manage a neuro/stroke caseload, deliver high-quality therapy, and work within a multidisciplinary team to achieve patient rehabilitation goals.
Medforce is seeking a motivated and experienced Senior Speech and Language Therapist to join our client's specialist rehabilitation hospital team in South Dublin.
The ideal candidate will have a degree in Speech and Language Therapy, current CORU registration, and significant experience working with neuro/stroke caseloads in an adult setting.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assessment and diagnosis of adults with neurological conditions, stroke, and other complex health needs affecting communication, cognition, and swallowing.
- Development, implementation, and evaluation of individualized therapy plans targeting speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing difficulties.
- Case management of a complex neuro/stroke caseload, providing regular reviews, adjustments, and monitoring of patient progress.
- Multidisciplinary collaboration with physiotherapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, doctors, and nursing staff to ensure a holistic approach to patient care.
- Family and caregiver support through education and advice on communication and safe swallowing strategies.
- Dysphagia management through instrumental assessments and development of appropriate management plans.
- Documentation of patient records in accordance with professional standards and legal requirements.
- Leadership and supervision of junior therapists, therapy assistants, and students.
- Contribution to the development and delivery of speech and language therapy services within the rehabilitation setting.
- Facilitation of training sessions for multidisciplinary team members and promotion of awareness of communication and swallowing issues within the hospital.
- Maintenance of professional development and knowledge of current best practices in neuro/stroke rehabilitation and speech and language therapy.
Essential criteria include:
- Qualifications: Degree or equivalent in Speech and Language Therapy.
- Registration: Current CORU registration as a Speech and Language Therapist.
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years post-qualification experience, with significant experience in working with neuro/stroke caseloads in an adult setting.
- Dysphagia competence: Demonstrated competence in managing swallowing disorders, including instrumental assessments.
- Teamwork: Strong experience in working within multidisciplinary teams.
- Communication: Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Leadership: Proven ability to manage a complex caseload, supervise staff, and contribute to service development.
Desirable criteria include postgraduate training or qualification in neuro/stroke rehabilitation.
