Senior Water Design Engineer
A highly skilled water engineer is sought to lead water treatment systems design, ensuring safe drinking water, compliance with regulations, and innovative solutions to complex water challenges.The job requires a deep understanding of water treatment technologies, including water softening, multi-media filtration, pH correction, membrane-based treatment, and disinfection methods. The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Designing and implementing water treatment systems to meet national and international standards
- Collaborating with global Mechanical engineering teams to achieve alignment of water treatment systems objectives
- Developing and maintaining the overall delivery program and project budget
- Preparing investment need/business case papers to secure internal funding for water reinforcement projects
Responsibilities include:
- Reviewing concept designs and designs in progress to ensure they meet established design standards, local code requirements, and other requirements of the Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs)
- Ensuring water systems are disinfected to national and statutory requirements, water meters are installed, commissioned, and calibrated correctly, and the water treatment plant is commissioned and delivering required outputs (flow & quality)
- Maintaining discharges below the discharge permit conditions
- Coordinating with construction, commissioning, and risk management teams to answer requests for information and value engineering queries
- Preparing early stage water related "Owners Requirements" documentation and working with Procurement teams to create a mechanism via Request for Quotation (RFQ) for Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) in the Specialist Water Contractor (SWC) scope
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in a field related to Chemical/Process and/or Mechanical engineering degree a related field
- 10+ years of experience in design engineering or the construction industry, related to water quality and chemical treatment or commensurate experience delivering water infrastructure and engineering solutions for capital-intensive projects across diversified industries
- 5+ years of demonstrated experience applying local water laws and codes, International Code Council (ICC) requirements, and other water treatment industry standards, procedures, and methodologies
- 5+ demonstrated years of experience with processes of design review, specification, development of design standards, and submittal review with ability to read and understand construction documents for all trades (design drawings, control diagrams, specifications, etc.)
- 3+ years demonstrated experience with the health and safety requirements and ensuring compliance is met within area of responsibility
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 15+ years of demonstrated experience as a process design engineer and/or water treatment specialist
- Technical experience of a range of treatment technologies including water softening, multi-media-filtration, pH correction, membrane-based treatment, disinfection (UV, AOP, Ozone)
- Experience with performance-based alternatives to prescriptive water treatment design
- Advanced business analytics skills
