Job Description

The Shift Technician will work as part of an operational team to support the Critical environment 24/7/365. Responsibilities include being the point of contact for the client and CBRE management, supervising the facilities operation centre and shift during your shift rotation, having a full overview and awareness of all activities, and prioritizing these activities in conjunction with the day tech team and technical manager. The shift technician will operate out of the facilities operation centre and ensure all aspects of the facility are covered and monitored during their shift. They will work alongside the day operation team to align critical equipment operations through Electrical or Mechanical switching activities to facilitate break/fix and planned preventive maintenance (PM) activities across the campus. The shift technician will report directly into the shift lead on site. The main responsibilities include being the point of contact on the shift, supervision of the central facilities operation centre and shift during your shift rotation, having a full overview and awareness of all activities, and prioritizing these activities in conjunction with the day tech team and technical manager. The shift technician will operate out of the facilities operation centre and ensure all aspects of the facility are covered and monitored during their shift. They will work alongside the day operation team to align critical equipment operations through Electrical or Mechanical switching activities to facilitate break/fix and planned preventive maintenance (PM) activities across the campus. The shift technician will report directly into the shift lead on site. The shift technician will be responsible for the following:

* Being the point of contact for the client and CBRE management
* Supervising the facilities operation centre and shift during your shift rotation
* Having a full overview and awareness of all activities
* Prioritizing these activities in conjunction with the day tech team and technical manager
* Operating out of the facilities operation centre and ensuring all aspects of the facility are covered and monitored during their shift
* Working alongside the day operation team to align critical equipment operations through Electrical or Mechanical switching activities to facilitate break/fix and planned preventive maintenance (PM) activities across the campus
* Reporting directly into the shift lead on site

Key responsibilities include:

* Monitoring the Facilities Operations Centre and ensuring that all monitoring system alarms are responded to in a timely manner
* Assisting the day tech team in the shutting down/startup of equipment as per site operational procedures to support all PM/CM activities (MOP) carried out by the PM Team or Vendors
* Providing a detailed shift handover report to the incoming shift team, this must be in a written format and supported by verbal handover from your shift team to the next covering all aspects of the operation of the facility
* Monitoring and responding to abnormal conditions in critical facility systems
* Being the first response to fire alerts, equipment alarms and facility events
* Being fully conversant with the facility Emergency Response Plan, EOPs, and acting as the shift liaison with security during site emergencies
* After failures internal and external to the facility, using EOPs to ensure site and personnel safety is maintained
* Providing detailed reports for any/all incidents on site during your shift. Reports must be completed on the correct template and sent to the CBRE supervisory and Management Team

The shift technician will also be responsible for ensuring all critical notifications are up to date during your shift and then closed out correctly as required when the task is completed. They will use CMMS to report all facility-related tasks, including recording all hours on site for the likes of training, DRAs, procedure creation/reviews, permits, vendors' escorts, work performance, etc. They will ensure that all completion of scheduled PMs/corrective maintenance or any scheduled works via CMMS in a timely manner to achieve 100% PM compliance. They will also ensure that all subcontractors are inducted and permitted to work within the CE domain. As required, they will escort third-party vendors to work locations and ensure the area is safe to perform work. They will review subcontractor statements, risk assessments, and MSDS to ensure compliance with site health and safety and operating procedures prior to you or your shift team issuing a permit to works. They will carry out vendor inspections during their shift, checking/monitoring the quality of work, reviewing data/service reports to include all break/fix, P.M.s and project work on site. They will author, peer review, approve or carry out periodic reviews of all operational documentation (like EOPs, drills, etc.) as issued by the shift lead and technical manager. They will update and log all activities/time on CMMS. They will ensure they update and record all their time/activities on CMMS correctly. They will ensure the daily Shift Handover report is sent via email detailing activities and issues that have taken place and that require escalation. They will ensure a shift audit is carried out on all CE systems within the FOC BMS, EPMS, and Fireworks etc. at the end of your shift. They will carry out drills and complete toolbox talks as per KPI tracker. They will report health and safety breaches through the HAZARD process, it is each engineer's responsibility to report hazards via the CBRE QHSE platform (4-sight, etc.) and provide updates to the CEM/QHSE team. They will follow up and close out any open hazards that are assigned to you or your team. They will remain on site until relieved by the incoming Shift Technician. They will provide the QHSE Team and CEM with a report on the number of permits to work issued per month. They will report on the likes of quantities, Permit types, high-risk activities & permit inspections etc. They will adhere to all quality, health and safety, and environmental policies within the Data Centre Domain. They will ensure that all work areas are clean and tidy at all times. They will ensure they wear the CBRE uniform including appropriate PPE as issued and that the professional image of CBRE is presented to clients and visitors at all times while on site. The shift technician will also be responsible for training and becoming a CBRE QHSE Champion. The responsibilities of the Champion may include but not be limited to:

* Acting as the point of contact on site for matters relating to QHSE for the Campus QHSE Team
* Contributing in the effective monitoring and of all known hazards and the effective closure of their associated action/s
* Carry out weekly/monthly site Safety inspections/walks
* Deliver QHSE related briefings, Toolbox Talks and approved training modules
* Deliver an approved new starter QHSE induction to all new members of the CE team
* Contributing in the effective maintenance of the site risk register and that of the associated assessments reviewing the efficiency of applied controls
* Participate in monthly logbook reviews and QHSE audits
* Complete regular Risk Champion audits on 4-sight, provide reports for the same to the QHSE manager
* Contributing in incident investigations and review panels.

The shift technician will have a fully verifiable trade qualification in a relevant engineering discipline and verifiable additional training that is relevant to the proposed environment. They will have an understanding of LV power distribution and loading. Previous data centre (or similar lab) experience is desirable. They will have an excellent understanding and experience of the electrical and mechanical systems used in a data centre environment, including:

* Feeders, Transformers, Generators, Fuel Systems, Switchgear, UPS systems, Battery banks, ATS/STS units, PDU/PMM units, Chillers, Air handling units, CRAC units, Fire Alarm systems, and Fire Suppression systems.
* Experience of complex automatic control equipment, including relay logic, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), building management systems, and their integration with the data centre infrastructure.
* Experience of medium voltage distribution systems and associated switch gear and protection equipment.
* Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate intelligently and effectively with the client and with contractors who perform maintenance or upgrade work on the data centre systems.
* Computer literate with the ability to compile and submit monthly and annual reports, and to monitor and trend operational characteristics (load, capacity, environmental conditions etc.).
* Good working ability on Microsoft Office Products.
* The ability to learn quickly and to gain maximum benefit from extensive training and development programs aimed at ensuring that any identified knowledge or experience deficiencies are addressed in the short term.
* Availability to work shifts and to provide emergency cover as required.
* Organized, able to effectively prioritize and deliver within a dynamic and high-pressure, business-critical environment.
* Self-motivated, with the ability to work on own initiative.

The shift technician is the next point of contact to cover shifts during emergency situations to provide holiday and sickness cover at short notice. They must be flexible in their working patterns to support requirements dictated by the rhythm of the business and operational demands.
