Shop Keeper Job Description

The Shop Keeper is responsible for ensuring the tidiness, safety, and security of the shop within the centre, working closely with the Centre Manager to maintain HACCP standards and cleaning schedules.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the shop is clean and tidy, both internally and externally
  • Maintain and file HACCP records
  • Manage shop opening times and ensure residents receive only their entitled tokens/points
  • Assist with resident induction, integration, and ongoing support
  • Manage rubbish and waste within the centre
  • Maintain shop information sheets and ensure all signs are framed and presented professionally
  • Perform daily shelf-life date checks and document wastage
  • Welcome and check the ID of all inspectors and official visitors, ensuring they sign the visitors book
  • Undertake cleaning duties and deep cleaning duties on a rotational basis
  • Provide support to other staff, including reception and cleaning areas during sickness or annual leave
  • Deal immediately with incidents and report to the manager on call
  • Be vigilant for trespassers or untoward behaviour and report to management
  • Report all use of fire equipment, fire alarms, electricity or fire outages to management
  • Support the preparation of welcome packs for new residents
  • Fill out the risk identification form and report all risk issues as they arise
  • Assist residents to make complaints on the complaints form, at their request
  • Be compliant with the IPAS Code of Conduct for staff working in International Protection and Direct provision Centres
  • Assist in the induction of new staff at the manager's request
  • Maintain stock room and stock items
  • Supervise other staff undertaking domestic work within the centre in collaboration with the Centre Manager

Requirements:

  • HACCP level 3 as a minimum
  • Two modules of QQI level 5, in hospitality or customer care
  • Excellent Maths to at least leaving certificate level
  • Excellent communication skills in English and other languages
  • Competent in Google translate or any other translator app
  • Child Protection Certificate
  • Computer literate
  • Familiar with POS, ordering, token, and stock taking systems

Experience:

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Shop Keeper or equivalent
  • Desirable: at least 1 year of experience in working with International Protection Residents, working with an NGO in a country in conflict or any other experience where it would make you a suitable candidate for this post

Accountability:

  • Accountable to the Centre Manager

Health & Safety:

  • Responsible for reading and complying with the Safety, Health, and Welfare Manual in line with the Safety, Health, and Welfare Act 2005
  • Responsible for familiarising themselves with the Fire Safety Policy and Fire Evacuation procedures

Compliance:

  • Responsible for reading all Policies and Procedures, understanding the processes, and reporting all identified hazards on the Company Risk Identification Form
  • Responsible for supporting residents with filling out and submitting Complements, Comments, Complaints
