Job Description

Position Overview: We are seeking a skilled Construction Site Operative with extensive experience in carpentry and roofing to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for various tasks on the construction site, ensuring that all work is completed to high standards of quality and safety. The role involves working both independently and as part of a team to support the construction and maintenance of residential and commercial properties. Key Responsibilities: Carpentry: Construct, install, and repair wooden structures and fixtures, including frameworks, floors, and roof trusses. Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine the layout and dimensions of projects. Measure, cut, shape, and assemble wood and other materials using hand and power tools. Install doors, windows, cabinetry, and other woodwork. Perform routine maintenance and repair on wooden structures. Roofing: Install and repair roofing materials, including shingles, tiles, metal sheets, and roofing membranes. Ensure proper installation of roofing components to maintain weather-tight integrity. Inspect and assess roof conditions, identifying any issues that need repair or replacement. Adhere to safety procedures and use personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure safe working conditions. Assist with the removal and disposal of old roofing materials. Site Duties: Follow project plans and specifications to complete tasks on schedule and within budget. Communicate effectively with other site operatives, subcontractors, and site managers. Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including proper storage of tools and materials. Adhere to all health and safety regulations and standards to minimize risk and ensure a safe working environment. Report any issues or concerns to the Site Manager or Supervisor in a timely manner. Requirements: Proven experience in carpentry and roofing, with a strong portfolio of completed projects. Relevant qualifications or certifications in carpentry and roofing (e.g., NVQ Level 2/3, City & Guilds). Proficiency in using hand and power tools, including saws, drills, and nail guns. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Strong physical fitness and stamina to handle the demands of the job. Effective communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team. A valid driving license and access to a vehicle may be required, depending on the location of the sites. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with both residential and commercial construction projects. Additional certifications in health and safety, such as CSCS or equivalent. Familiarity with building codes and regulations. Working Conditions: The role may involve working at heights, in various weather conditions, and in potentially hazardous environments.
