Site Reliability Engineer - Coding, Managed Operations
Amazon Development Centre Ireland Limited is seeking an experienced Site Reliability Engineer to spearhead the launch of the European Sovereign Cloud (ESC), a significant development in utility computing.
As a key member of the AWS Managed Operations team, you will play a pivotal role in building and leading operations and development teams dedicated to delivering high-availability AWS services, including EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, and Bedrock, exclusively for EU customers.
Your responsibilities will encompass:
- Overseeing the launch of the ESC in 2025
- Working closely with global AWS teams
- Influencing the evolution of AWS services and technology
- Collaborating with technology leaders to enhance day-to-day operations
- Ensuring improvements in availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency of the ESC
- Participating in "on-call" rotations to resolve incidents occurring out-of-hours
The overarching goal is to deliver scalable services and ensure a high-availability experience for EU customers.
We are looking for an experienced professional with a strong background in automation and operations, who is ready for a challenging and impactful opportunity.
Requirements:
- 3+ years of experience in software development or related field with proficiency in at least one modern programming language
- 3+ years of experience with Linux, using the command line and basic administration, and computer networking fundamentals
- Able to troubleshoot at all levels, from network to operating systems to software applications
- Experience supporting cloud systems or other services
Preferred Qualifications:
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills across languages
- Experience operating 24x7 high-availability, distributed software applications and performance tuning software applications and optimizing fleet utilization
- Strong understanding of network fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, routing, load balancing, load shedding) and experience with monitoring frameworks
- Experience scripting operating system tasks in Bash, Python, etc. and with Infrastructure as Code
- Experience operating services in AWS
Eligibility Requirements:
- Fluency in written and spoken English is required
- Successful applicants must have the legal right to work in Ireland
- Amazon will provide relocation support for successful applicants relocating within the European Union
- This position involves On-call responsibility
