Job Description

Amazon Web Services is seeking Senior Electrical Engineers to become part of a global engineering team, responsible for the implementation and technical evaluation of our designs and the continuous innovation of our rapidly expanding data center footprint.

Engineers at Amazon work to design resilient, cost-effective electrical distribution systems. They are responsible for achieving a world-class uptime for our customers and communicate the technical decisions we make to Sr. Management. They drive continuous advancements and improvements with our designs and define/design the systems our customers rely on.

As an electrical engineer at Amazon, you will have hands-on electrical design and field experience, be able to design and operate electrical systems, understand the critical equipment needs for a data center, and comprehend the constructability of varying designs. Teamwork is essential for us to accomplish our goals, and you must be able to work within a team and depend on others to accomplish the required work.

In this role, you will work with the Principals and Senior Electrical Engineers to drive the standardization of designs across the global region in production data centers and resolve open technical issues in the electrical space. You will participate in the research and development of new technologies and designs applicable to our products or services. You will be relied on as a subject matter expert in the electrical engineering field and write technical documentation for such projects. International support will be part of the job, and some international travel will be necessary, which should be no more than 30%.

Your tasks include conceiving, initiating, and leading projects with widespread impact on infrastructure design, innovation, and implementation. You will achieve this by breaking down complex problems into straightforward and actionable solutions and collaborating with teams or individuals from other disciplines, cultures, and countries. You will escalate issues as required and communicate clearly and effectively with people from a wide range of technical abilities and backgrounds.

Part of the role will also include the review and approval of critical equipment submittals, providing technical support on global Large Scale Events (LSE's), and maintaining and hosting technical electrical forums to provide a collaborative environment for the development of datacenter electrical systems.

Key job responsibilities: Produce clear and concise documentation such as detailed design specifications, drawings, white papers, wiring schematics, and diagrams.Understand and safeguard the implementation of the Global Electrical Basis of Design (BoD) by driving standardization in the data center electrical designs.Develop strategic solutions that meet or exceed our quality requirements while falling within budgetary constraints.Define project scope and provide technical support for information requests during innovation and research and development projects.Work with regional vendors and manufacturers to specify the appropriate electrical equipment.Manage concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and cumulative 5+ years of experience with industrial or commercial electrical design.Excellent understanding of applicable regional electrical codes (NEC, CEC, ETCI, NFC, etc.).In-depth understanding of critical data center electrical equipment as well as good working knowledge of BIM and Revit.Ability to research new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities.Ability to carry new design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment/construction.3+ years of experience directly related to data center or mission-critical facility design and Professional Engineer, Chartered Engineer, or regional equivalent.Detailed understanding of uninterruptible power sources, diesel generators, electrical switchgear, power distribution units, variable frequency drives, and automatic/static transfer switches.Direct experience with the construction, operation, or maintenance of data centers.Knowledge of building codes and regulations including Life Safety, IBC, NFPA, NEC, and OSHA.Possess leadership, problem-solving skills, excellent communication skills, and attention to detail.
