Senior Kernel/Hypervisor Engineer for EC2 Accelerated Nitro

Amazon is seeking an experienced Senior Kernel & Hypervisor Engineer to join the EC2 Accelerated Nitro team, responsible for building the lowest layer of the Amazon Web Services software stack.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in kernel and hypervisor development, with experience in leading engineering teams and driving operational excellence. They will be responsible for taking end-to-end ownership of the software development life cycle, building new solutions across the virtualization software stack, and influencing virtualization components.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, test, and deploy new solutions across the virtualization software stack
  • Drive operational excellence, improving the quality of the hypervisor and instance platforms
  • Lead other engineers, improving processes, and partnering with product and program managers
  • Influence and contribute to the technological roadmap of the team
  • Work with other EC2 teams to drive innovative solutions
  • Participate in on-call rotations to ensure system resilience and fault-tolerance

Requirements

  • 5+ years of programming experience with C/Rust or a compiled language
  • Direct experience with Linux kernel and/or virtualization development
  • Experience leading architecture and design of new and current systems
  • Experience programming with at least one modern language (Java, C++, or C#)
  • Strong understanding of performance-critical areas of the Linux Kernel
  • Proficient in at least one CPU architecture (x86 or ARM)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
  • Experience with full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
  • 5+ years of experience using the typical Linux command line toolbox
  • Hands-on experience working on the Linux Kernel
