Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Process Automation Engineer to join our team, responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining automated systems to improve manufacturing processes and drive innovation.
We are looking for a detail-oriented and strategic thinker who can analyze existing processes and technology trends to identify opportunities for improvement. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in automation systems, including PLC, HMI, and robotics, and experience with Allen Bradley and Siemens controls systems.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Consulting on and implementing technically challenging bespoke End-2-End automation projects that drive continuous improvement and innovation onsite
- Researching new technology and industry best practices and applying knowledge gained to existing processes and the future state automation roadmap
- Developing, implementing, and testing software for highly automated equipment
- Supporting the implementation of data acquisition and the development of digital business intelligence tools
- Leading and supporting teams driving technology process innovation with emphasis on improving quality, reducing cost, improving reliability, and developing state-of-the-art automated and semi-automated systems
- Providing day-to-day support to operations for Automation and Controls components within the manufacturing process
- Identifying, evaluating, and implementing opportunities for continuous improvement
- Providing technical leadership to the wider engineering team in the field of process automation
- Participating in project teams, providing technical support, and making informed decisions on hardware and architecture selection
- Proactively resolving technical issues before they impact business priorities
- Analyzing, understanding, fault-finding, and modifying automation software in line with the site's quality management system
- Developing, testing, and installing control software as part of a highly automated and validated production environment
- Developing and integrating software applications with automated equipment into existing business intelligence digital tools used onsite
- Championing digital reporting tools and visualizations that are thorough, detailed, and comprehensible by the end user
- Taking ownership of the software applications and hardware used to house the site's digital business intelligence tools, ensuring optimum performance
- Developing user, functional, and detailed design specifications
- Working within a cross-functional multidiscipline team environment
- Using data and metrics to anticipate problems and make data-driven decisions in response
- Supporting process development and cost reduction activities within the business units
- Providing guidance on integrating, testing, evaluating, and modifying automated systems and seeing the process through from beginning to end
- Providing on-the-job training/support to new team members
Requirements:
- Level 8 degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with equivalent technical experience
- Minimum of 4-6 years of software and controls experience in a manufacturing environment
- Demonstrated ability to provide technical solutions for complex problems through automation systems knowledge
- Proven project management skills through the delivery of automation and digitalization projects
- Strong technical background in automation systems, including PLC, HMI, and robotics
- Experience with Allen Bradley and Siemens controls systems
- Some experience of scripting programming languages
- Some experience of object-oriented programming and SQL Server DB design
- Working knowledge of Ignition SCADA platform and Cognex vision systems
- Good knowledge of ISA95 and ISA88 design/implementation
- Strong communication and influencing skills with both internal and external stakeholders
- Capable of providing technical leadership, influencing, and providing technical direction to engineers, technicians, and team members as required
- Capable of working autonomously or as part of a multi-disciplined team in an aggressive, dynamic, and results-motivated environment
- A team player with a flexible approach
- Willing to source, investigate, and implement technological and automation advances
- Understanding of FDA, BSI, and regulatory software validation requirements
