Staff Grade Psychologist – CDNT The Staff Grade Psychologist will provide psychological assessments, interventions, and therapeutic support to children and young people with complex developmental disabilities, including intellectual, physical, sensory, and learning disabilities, within a multidisciplinary team. This role is based in Waterford. Key Responsibilities of Staff Grade Psychologist: Conduct psychological assessments, using evidence-based methods, to identify cognitive, emotional, behavioral, and developmental needs of children with disabilities. Develop individualized treatment and intervention plans based on assessment findings, in collaboration with the child, family, and other members of the multidisciplinary team (MDT). Provide therapeutic interventions, including behavioral management, cognitive-behavioral therapy, play therapy, and family support, tailored to the needs of children and young people. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and adjust treatment plans as necessary. Contribute to service delivery by offering clinical recommendations to support children’s development, education, and social inclusion. Engage in direct therapeutic work with individuals, groups, and families to foster psychological well-being and enhance coping strategies for managing developmental and intellectual disabilities. Work closely with other professionals in the CDNT (e.g., occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, social workers, etc.) to deliver holistic, child-centered care. Participate in case conferences, team meetings, and contribute to the decision-making process regarding the care of children and young people within the network. Liaise with external agencies, schools, healthcare providers, and community organizations to ensure integrated service provision and continuity of care. Provide education, training, and advice to families and caregivers on the psychological aspects of their child’s condition. Offer psychological support to help families understand and cope with the emotional challenges of raising a child with a disability. Advocate for the child’s needs in various settings, including school and community services, to promote optimal developmental outcomes. Maintain accurate and up-to-date case notes, assessments, treatment plans, and reports in accordance with professional and organizational standards. Ensure confidentiality and compliance with data protection regulations in handling client records and information. Prepare reports for referral purposes, progress reviews, and external stakeholders where appropriate. Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of psychological services within the CDNT. Engage in service evaluation and research initiatives to ensure the use of best practices and evidence-based interventions. Assist in the training and development of assistant psychologists, students, or other staff as needed. Minimum Requirements: A recognised university degree or diploma (QQI level 8 equivalent) obtained with 1st or 2nd class honours in which Psychology was taken as a major subject. A recognised post-graduate professional qualification in clinical, counselling or educational psychology or an equivalent qualification validated by the Department of Health. We would welcome applications from 2023 doctoral graduates. Applicants who qualified outside the Republic of Ireland must already have their qualifications validated by the Department of Health and Children and the Psychological Society of Ireland.
