Staff Machine Learning Engineer
Etsy is seeking a Staff Machine Learning Engineer to join the Trust & Safety Content Evaluation team, a machine learning team that supports Etsy's ability to detect policy violations in user-generated content.
This role involves developing multiple complex projects, using strong communication skills to work with applied scientists and machine learning engineers, and partnering with cross-functional stakeholders from different backgrounds and technical levels.
The Content Evaluation squad within Trust & Safety Product Engineering works to automatically remove dangerous and risky member-generated content from our marketplaces.
Key responsibilities include:
- Prototype, optimize, and productionize large-scale ML models to improve the quality of our evaluations and drive core business metrics for Trust & Safety at Etsy.
- Design and implement experiments (Hypothesis testing, A/B testing etc.) to measure marketplace effects.
- Coach and train junior team members.
- Work closely with product managers, ML engineers, full-stack engineers, and designers to measure and improve the quality of our marketplace via real-time detection of non-compliant inventory and spammy conversations.
- Collaborate with Product, Design, Research, Analytics, and others to craft plans that translate our business goals into technology solutions.
- Be a technology leader to drive improvements in the Etsy ML and MLOps environment.
Qualities that will help you thrive in this role include:
- A track record of applying statistical techniques in addressing real-world problems.
- Expertise in one of the following fields: text classification, LLMs, image classification, visual text search, optimization, forecasting, reinforcement learning, human-in-the-loop.
- Strong communication skills and ability to participate in company/industry forums.
- Experience training, deploying, monitoring, debugging, and iterating on production machine learning systems.
- Ability to create requirements and lead teams from design through to delivery.
- Understanding of coding languages such as Python/SQL, deep learning frameworks such as Pytorch and/or Tensorflow, workflow management tools such as Airflow, and cloud platforms such as GCP/Azure/AWS.
