Role Title: Staff Nurse: Foundation Course in Intensive Care Nursing (General and Cardiothoracic) Job Reference Number:000736 Closing Date:Sunday, 13th October 2024 Purpose of the Role: The purpose of this 6 month course is to provide Registered General Nurses who have no previous critical care experience, with the knowledge and skills necessary to function safely in a critical care setting. While on the programme, the Staff Nurse will be supported and supervised during placement by the educational team in ICU (General and Cardiothoracic). This position is challenging and dynamic, requiring the nurse to have good interpersonal skills, clinical judgement, and technical skills. He/She/They will work as part of the multidisciplinary team to deliver a high standard of care to patients in ICU (General and Cardiothoracic). The post holder is responsible for managing the care of critically ill patients and the needs of their families, ensuring quality is maintained. This position is for Staff Nurses who have none or less than 18 months experience in critical care. While on the course, the Staff Nurse is part of the ICU (General and Cardiothoracic) nursing team. The Staff Nurse is continuously supervised and supported by the educational team during this course. A Staff Nurse is a Registered Nurse who is involved in direct patient care with the responsibility of providing the highest standard of evidence based nursing care in partnership with other health care professionals. Their role is to promote health, prevent disease, and help patients cope with illness. Responsibilities include assessing, planning, delivering, and evaluating highly specialised nursing care, using a holistic approach. When providing direct patient care, they observe, assess, and record symptoms responses, and progress. They also supervise and assess Student Nurses and other junior staff in the clinical area. The Registered Nurse must adhere to the Code of Professional practice and behaviours. Required: Be registered in the General Division of the Register of Nurses & Midwives maintained by the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI). AND Minimum of 1 years experience in acute medical/surgical nursing within the last 3 years. The most recent experience must be in an acute hospital. Note: Post holders must maintain annual registration with NMBI. Demonstrate I.T. skills including excellent keyboard skills. Desired: Working knowledge of healthcare patient record systems.
