Steelwork / Metalwork Estimator
Daniel Whelan Engineering Works Ltd. have a fantastic opportunity for a Steelwork / Metalwork Estimator to join our successful, well-established business in a permanent role.
We are a well-established steelwork fabricator and supplier of structural and architectural steelwork including balconies, general building steels, balustrades, staircases, handrails, and secondary steelwork, from design through to fabrication, site delivery, and erection. We are now looking for an experienced Estimator to join our team who should have 5 years + industry experience.
The Role
- Estimating of standard steel structures from drawings and bills of quantities including general metal works, steel stairs, balustrades, and handrails in steel and glass.
- Estimating of steel balcony structures from drawings and bills of quantities.
- Liaising with clients, architects/engineers & contractors.
- Collaborate with the engineering team to develop detailed cost estimates and project timelines.
- Obtaining quotations for any works that need to be subcontracted.
- Responsible for all changes and variations to pricing prior to contract award.
- Monitoring of variations to original price with contracts and production managers.
- Liaison with clients, directors, contracts managers, and projects managers in weekly meetings.
- Preparing material take offs and quantity surveying duties for awarded projects.
- Generating project specific quotations using Word.
The Candidate
- General knowledge of the fabrication industry and structural & architectural estimating experience essential.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong understanding of steel fabrication and construction industry standards.
- Excellent analytical and mathematical skills.
- Exceptional communication and negotiation abilities.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Team player with the ability to work independently.
- Strong project management skills.
- Fluent in English.
- Knowledge of industry pricing trends and suppliers.
