Overview With a full banking license in progress for Dublin, this bank are currently expanding their Irish operations at a rapid pace. With their banking and capital markets businesses operated under several UK and Irish entities the Tax obligations are mounting. Your role comes in the form of a newly established presence for Tax Operations in Ireland. Sitting within the Finance team here, you will report directly to the overall Head of Tax in London. Their overriding philosophy on this is for someone to come in with a good grounding in Tax and then learn on the job overtime the broad range of exposure to different tax areas the role offers. Your development in the role will be up to you. There is the option of focusing on either the Corporate Tax or VAT side or alternatively taking on equal responsibility for both filling knowledge gaps as you progress. Added to that, there is a strong emphasis on the interaction between tax amendments and the financial statements both in monthly management accounting and at year end. Position Summary Youll be providing tax reporting and compliance (corporate and VAT) for entities based in the UK and Ireland This is a broad role, requiring a combination of a high level of technical knowledge, good organizational skills and an ability to liaise across various business and support groups to achieve a variety of aims and objectives. Youll also be responsible for ensuring all reporting and compliance obligations are met and therefore it will be necessary to maintain a strong internal financial control environment to ensure that all deliverables are accurate and submitted on a timely basis. This position involves working alongside other UK and Toronto based Finance teams. Fundamental Competencies This role requires: A working knowledge of UK or Irish corporate tax A working knowledge of VAT ideally some knowledge of partial exemption for financial services Outstanding analytical skills with an inquisitive mindset to identify and swiftly resolve issues Excellent communication & presentation skills to provide guidance to the local and Head Office finance teams on specific issues The development and maintenance of good relationships with key stakeholders and the ability to effectively communicate recommendations Key Deliverables Statutory Reporting Assist with the tax notes for all the UK & Irish entities, including reviewing draft financial statements to ensure accuracy of numbers and appropriateness of financial statement disclosures Provide expertise in incorporating any tax disclosure requirements as new businesses/products are booked in the local entities Provide expertise in incorporating changes in tax reporting standards Financial Control Preparation of tax provisions for the month end, quarter end and year-end close process for UK and Irish entities, explaining variances and dealing with queries from London/Toronto Finance and Tax teams Maintain an up-to-date awareness of changes to UK and Irish taxation and ensure that the local Finance teams are prepared to remain compliant with the rules. Tax Accounting and Reporting Prepare all journal entries relating to corporation tax and VAT Prepare draft corporation tax returns for all UK and Irish entities and respond to external advisors. Calculate and ensure all tax payments are made on timely basis Prepare UK and Irish VAT returns, including partial exemption calculation Prepare the UK Bank Levy balance sheet Collate information to assist with responding to enquiries from tax authorities Your Background Qualified Accountant or Tax Advisor with 5+ years of relevant experience in either Corporation Tax or VAT or a combination of both Part Qualified in Accountancy or Tax with the relevant on the job experience is equally suitable A motivated individual with excellent technical know-how in Tax added to strong MS Excel skills
