The Chartered Accountants Ireland Advocacy and Voice Department is responsible for the tax and public policy agenda of Chartered Accountants Ireland.
We work with expert colleagues drawn from practice and industry, developing and advocating policy on matters relating to tax, financial reporting, audit and assurance, ethics and governance and business law.
The tax professionals within the department provide information on key tax developments in both the Irish and UK jurisdictions where most of our members operate.
We respond to our members' views on aspects of tax law and administration which creates difficulties both in industry and practice, and we work with Government and its various bodies to highlight concerns and develop solutions.
Operating on a commercial basis, the tax outputs include Chartered Accountants Tax News, Tax Source (the digital legislation solution) and (the Institute's tax magazine).
The role will also involve applying the tax research and analysis skills to matters of public policy which align with the successful candidates tax and accounting expertise, including managing some of the Institutes engagements with the wider international accounting community through our memberships of CCAB-I, Accountancy Europe, IFAC, and the Global Accounting Alliance.
Attending meetings with Revenue, Department of Finance and other agencies and professional bodies as appropriate to convey the views of the Institute.
Researching and drafting of technical submissions to Government on areas determined by the Institute committees and Tax Leader and managing the review and consultation process both before and after the submission is made.
Devising approaches and strategies to maximise the impact of the submissions, and identifying, in consultation with the Committees, matters for inclusion.
Attending at, participating or otherwise contributing to conferences, seminars and other events on the Institutes behalf, whether Institute arranged or otherwise.
Other representations activity as advised by the Tax Leader from time to time, including meetings and representations to other Revenue authorities, the OECD and the European Commission.
Rigorous and documented research into tax and related areas, both nationally and internationally Maintaining tax knowledge and commercial skills to the highest level Participation in Advocacy & Voice team meetings and other Institute activities Full sharing of information with other team members, and other departments of the Institute as the need arises The candidate The successful candidate will ideally be a dual qualified tax professional with membership of both a recognised accountancy body and a recognised professional taxation body with experience in a technical and regulatory environment.
An excellent knowledge of professional, technical and ethical standards and a good level of IT literacy will be required.
The candidate must be capable of working on their own initiative.
They must be able to take ownership of the role and be capable of making key decisions while also actively collaborating within a team focused on results.
