Job Description

Transform the power system to enable a low-carbon energy future and shape the network architecture for existing and future needs.

We are the people behind Ireland's electricity grid. Our team operates the power system with world-leading levels of variable asynchronous renewable generation, ensuring that everyone has power when they need it. We are transforming the power system for future generations, with a critical purpose to reduce carbon emissions and meet climate change and net zero ambitions.

The Eir Grid Group has a unique role to play in leading this radical transformation of our power system in support of the transition to renewable energy. This requires pioneering engineering effort together with enhanced IT capability to respond successfully to the scale of disruption.

We are seeking a Network Telecom Architect to join our growing IT Infrastructure team. As we transition to a low-carbon energy future, this is an opportunity to operate at a strategic level to shape and influence network architecture for our existing and future needs in new interconnector and offshore deployment.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and maintaining the telecommunications infrastructure critical to supporting Eir Grid's operations. With Eir Grid's plans to deploy new renewable energy generators over the next five years, there is a pressing need for enhanced telecommunications capabilities to facilitate telemetry, SCADA, and all additional services for these installations.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, network telecom engineering, technology management or other relevant degree
  • 8-10 years post-qualification experience, including 4+ years professional experience in a Network Telecom Architecture role
  • Excellent technical network telecom expertise and experience of working on projects/programmes of significant value and scale
  • Strong track record in architecting and overseeing the delivery of complex solutions and ability to drive successful outcomes
  • Strategic thinker, ability to translate complex problems into workable solutions in high-pressure environments
  • Knowledge of the constraints and challenges of supporting a secure high-availability telecom network environment
  • Exceptional communicator, able to articulate technical concepts and analysis to non-technical audiences and business leaders
  • Ability to lead and influence others to move towards a common vision or goal and to work collaboratively with and through others
